I have a couple of questions on the topic of keys.
I bought my bike used.. it's a 99 gs500e. it came with a generic "walmart" cut key.
I would REALLY like to have a nicer looking key. Like any vehicle you buy today come with keys that have a black plastic "top" where the key-ring goes. Is it possible to get a key like this for the GS?
I called the suzuki dealers around here, and their answer was along the lines of "We just sell the bikes. You'll have to contact a locksmith"
I read on here before, something about an older toyota key will also work... anyone have more info on that?
And lastly.. my gas tank & seat locks are hard to open. Is there something I can spray into them to make them easier to unlock? WD40?
Thanks for all the info!
You can try home depot, thats where i got my Suzuki car key done. it looks pretty much the same as my gs key, but id have to double check to make sure.
You can Suzuki black plastic key blanks at a dealer. If they say no, then they are idoits. Last time I bought one they were around $7-8. There are also available on ebay for about half that. Make sure you can find a lock smith that will cut a blank they do not sell.
Home Depot does not have Suzuki m/c blanks, at least the one I work at does not. I had to get them made at a lock smith. I had an Ace Harware store make them once but last time there they did not have the blanks anymore.
Graphite is the best to lube locks.

I had mine done a month ago and works perfectly, maybe not be the "Suzuki" blanks but it works.
There was another blank that some have used...Audi maybe?
definitely use graphite, not a "wet" lubricant like oil, or even worse, wd-40 (which isn't even really a lubricant). Any locksmith should have a graphite lube handy as well.

I'll third the graphite, all the locks on my bike were horrable...like try for 2 or 3 minutes to turn the ignition...got some graphite lube that had a petroleum based penetration oil....now my lock work like new

I work at a Suzuki Dealer and we both sell and cut keys here :thumb:
ScottPA- you say you work at a Suzuki dealer...do you work at the car dealer that also sells mc stuff, or is it strictly a mc dealer? Just curious cause I havent been able to find a mc dealer in VA that wasnt a "all brands" bike shop.

Awesome. I sent you a PM. Maybe you can get a blank for me, or even get a key cut. That'd be great!
