Title: Installing a new tail section from another bike?
Post by: Chris18 on September 11, 2007, 11:06:41 AM
Hello all

I have been wondering if it is possible to maybe mount a newer GSX-R rear section and subframe to a GS500F?
Does anyone know if anything like this has been done before?

Because I really want a solo seat, which would also be good for racing.  8)

Anything can be done, it's just a question of how much work you want to put into it and what kind of access you have to proper and necessary tools.

You'd need to cut off the old subframe, fabricate and weld mounts for the new subframe from the GSX-R, figure out a way to store a battery, convert all the wiring over to work with the tail light and turn signals and figure out a way to make the transition from gas tank to seat clean and actually able to be used for riding.

Or you could just go buy an SV650 and bolt on a solo seat tail section and have another 30hp to boot.

People have mounted older (96-99) GSX-R tail plastics with some fab work, as well as R6 tails.
