Title: steering damper for 04+ ?? is it true?
Post by: kml.krk on September 14, 2007, 08:22:18 PM
while I was doing a little research on the internet I found this website: http://www.newportcycleparts.com/categories/suspension/toby_steering_dampers.htm

When you scroll down to SUZUKI first position is GS500F I was so nicely surprised when I saw it :) I thought the only position would be GSXR. In fact it seems that they have steering damper for GS500 at least 04 model.

Did you guys hear about that? How it works and how is it mounted?

I'm not going to install it cause I think it'll be very expensive, it is just my curiosity....

If you know anything interesting about it just throw it here.

Cheers

Yeah, it's just a universal damper.........probably requires some form of cutting to fit it.
Why not just get a mid 90's stock GSXR damper off ebay for $30 and mod it to fit if you want a damper.

I heard tale once that one of the GTP offerings would actually bolt right on to the GS :dunno_white:  But as I recall it wasn't even one listed for a suzuki.............

cool. thanks for your opinion. that's what I wanted to know. I'm not going to buy steering damper cause I don't ride that fast :) Fastest I went so far was 85MPH and didn't like it too much. The vibrations made me feel unsafe since I'm relatively new rider.

Hey, hold on there. If you have vibrations at 85 mph, something is wrong. You should be able to reach 100 mph without vibrations, or whatever your bike is capable of.

Are we talking road imperfections, head shake, engine buzzes, or just your knees knocking the tank to bits ? ;)

IMO the only time a GS would need a steering dampener is

1. if it has a turbo, nitrous etc
2. you ride on a lot of dirt or gravel roads

3. track days (especially with a dropped front end and under heavy braking)
4. race (most organizations require them)

I had a Toby on my TLR and they are great dampers.

hmmm. that's a good one...  I'll try to explain: road is fine (Long Island Expresway), no head shake, what's happening is that I mostly "see" vibrations! what I mean is that the vision in mirrors is worsened! Also the bike seems to be buzzing a little bit. It's hard to explain, but I think many people complain about GS500 vibrations so I think it isn't unusual...
Well before I rejetted the bike I also felt something like buzzing on the handlebar. But it disappeared.
So is it normal?? The buzzing thing? Or I should be worrying about that??
