Title: One more question, bout idle
Post by: ty500f on September 15, 2007, 02:56:54 PM
I finally got my bike back after the engine transplant!!  :icon_mrgreen: and now i'm down here at bike week at Ocean City, Md. Yesterday the idle stayed at 1500 rpms, but now it will not go lower than 4000 rpms. how are you supposed to adjust it? Any help would be greatly appreciated

the white screw that pops out b/w both carbs is that idle screw. Also check and make sure the choke is turning off 4K is where my choke brings up the idle.

+1 on both the advice and the typical-choke RPMs, except that my idle adjust screw is gold in color, not white. You can't miss it (if I can't, no one can)-- sticks out right between 'em and hangs down lower than anything else. Remember to turn lefty loosey... which actually means righty tighty if adjusting while seated on the bike.

I set my idle at 1500rpm ( a tad higher than recommended in the books user manual) but I personally like it like this as it makes for easier take offs.

Maybe I'm paranoid, but I don't really like running the idle any faster than I really have to on an air-cooled bike.

Setting the idle a little higher than 1200 does make it just a bit easier to get the bike initially warmed up, though.

^^^+1
My idle was running high at 1.6k but i hardly needed to use the choke, i lowered it to 1.3k and i just need a little more choke time but nothing to inconvenient.
