Got an intermitent problem with my tachometer.Needle starts fluctuating for no reason at all.At idle it shows zero , at what I feels like a 5-6K goes all the way to the red line.
I don't know if it maters, oil change done a few days ago.
Bike is 2006 GS500F with a 6.***K.
Any ideas?
Thanks.
Roman.
check the tac wires maybe a loose connection or a short in the electrical? :dunno_white:

+1.
Newer GS's ('04+?) have electrical tachometers. Checking out for bad/loose cable connections is the way to go, IMHO.
I don't think a recent oil change might have any effect on this.
Good luck finding the fault :thumb:
Is the battery and charging system ok? The electronics in the tacho are very sensitive to under/over-voltage and an erratic tacho can often be the first sign of problems related to the battery and charging sytem.
MrHyde had the same problem with his tach - his charging system was fine, and everything else was good. I had a spare 02+ tach laying around, and after replacing it, everythign was good.
Could just be a bummed tach.
Sorta like the speedo's that go all wonky...
Checked charging system, wires, conectors to the tach and igniter.Everything is OK.
I guess just a gremlin in the tach.F it.Until it start doing it all the time I'll do nothing.
Did oil change on Saturday.Tach works perfect.Weird. :o
Am I going :cookoo:?

But I still want to know what was going on with the tach.
I just had this same issue on my '04. It only occured about a half hour forty five minutes into the ride. Really freaked me out at first being that I had only had the bike for three weeks and only been riding that long. Long story short it took the shop a while to catch it they said that the tach was fried and replaced it. Gotta love the warranty already paying for itself!
Does this happen to alot of other 500's ?
