I went on a road trip this weekend (about 650 miles all expressway) and about half way through I started noticing a whining/grinding noise coming from somewhere on the bike. I started investigating the noise today and suspect that it is coming from the front sprocket. I can only hear the sound when I have the throttle open, when I'm not opening the throttle the bike sounds completely normal. Any ideas on what's causing this sound? BTW, this is on my SV650, not the GS.
Thanks.
bad chain/sprockets. how old are they? do you maintain them properly?

There is about 11,000 miles on them. I just got the bike and went to clean the chain yesterday and there was quite a bit of build up on the chain so I'm guessing it was neglected.
How often do you check your chain slack?

I've only had the bike for a week so I never checked the chain. I got it adjusted today and it quieted down quite a bit. I can still hear it but I suppose you are going to be able to hear the chain a bit.
Check it every two weeks, or every 1000 miles or so. When you get a brand new chain check it every week, for the first month or so (took 2 months for mine to break in; even as a daily rider).
Ok. Thanks
