I am a winner and have lost the only key to my bike...
I have contacted a locksmith and they can make a key from the existing barrel for a hell of a lot less than Suzuki want ($560!).
My question is, can the key be made from the seat lock barrel? I am concerned that the seatlock might only use a reduced number of pins (ie only key into a portion of the key) and therefore a key cut to this might not operate the ignition.
Has anyone had a working key cut from the seat lock? Or does anyone know if they are the same?
Alternatively someone could send a scan of their key and the locksmith can count the teeth/dents and hopefully work out how many pins to expect in the ignition barrel.
I'm just about positive the seat barrel uses less pins than the ignition.
a key i had made for my GS when i bent my key , fitted tank , and seat lock ...
not positive on the exact number of tumblers....
seat has 3-4 tumblers
gas tank has 5-6 and ig has 7-8
so it's easier to make a key if ya have all three in front of ya

the top tripple to a locksmith shop
should be able to do it for 50 ish or less
So it looks like I have to take the ignition barrel off. How is this done? And is it even possible to do with the steering lock on (:mad:)?
should be able to take off the whole top tripple clamp to the locksmith
or
take bike to locksmith shop
in the back of a UTE
With ignition locked, triple will not come off ...

blocks under the engine
loosen top tripple bolts
then
start to loosen the tripple stem under the top tripple then slide the forks and or lower tripple down
until the top clamp falls off
you don't have your key # anywhere? A dealer could cut a key from that...
Yes - I found the key number that comes on that little black plastic tag.
After a trip up to the local locksmiths and $23 later - two new keys! :cheers: Something that Suzuki said would not be possible - guess it goes to show that you shouldn't believe everything that you get told... :cookoo:

Thanks to your post, I scanned my key at uber high resolution, encrypted the scan and emailed the "scanned-key.jpg.gpg" to myself - so it will always be 'safe' in cyberspace.
I keep one hidden on the bike too. There are a ton of good places if you don't mind getting a little grimy to get it out ;)
