Title: How much would you pay for a 2007 GS500F?
Post by: Yev on September 19, 2007, 07:07:08 AM
Hey guys,

I'm still on the hunt for my first GS500F. I found a 2007 GS500F with less than 300 miles on it. What is a reasonable price to offer for this bike in CT? The owner wasnts $4800, but that's too much IMO.

Thanks,
Yev

I bought mine straight from the dealer ( with tag costs, dealer fees etc ) for just shy of $4,700.

Really? That seems like a great deal. The dealer I went to said close to 6 grand out the door for a new 07... :(

$5000 is the max I'd pay for brand new bike.  keep in mind that I would NOT buy a NEW bike! I agree with frankieG who said:  once it's off the floor it's used! it means you just lost few hundred dollars that you could spend on mods or to pay insurance fees.
just keep that in mind.

For those of us less mechanically inclined, a new bike does offer SOME peace of mind rather than having to rely on a crap-shoot.  The PO(s) could have ragged out the engine and told lies.... *shrug*

Like I said though, for a brand new '07 500F I paid under $4,700 so I think I did okay. ;)

Ya, 'new' dealers never lie.

But anyway, remember the premium you pay for a 'new' vehicle dissapears POOF! the moment you drive it off the lot. Doesn't matter if they promise to change the oil (is that worth an extra $2 grand?), tires for life, or anything else. The dealer always wins, that's why he's the dealer !

Two year old bikes on craigslist go for 2-3 grand less than 'new'. Yes, they may not be 'perfect' and don't have any scratches, but you'll fix that in the driveway, or in front of some girls. ;)

Remember, the gs is tough, just like the ninja 500ex. It will last as long as you want it to. You can throw in a 'new' motor for a few hundred bucks, so please don't start with the bits about 'abused' PO's break-in habits.

^ 2 cents :)

I think I'm going to go to a nearby Suzuki dealer and just buy a brand new bike.
They are offering me a new 2007 for $5000 out the door with title/reg and everything. Should I just bite the bullet and go with it?! They really don't want to budget anymore on the price.

no. that's too much. don't buy new. this is the last year the gs500 will be made. it's not like suzuki will suddenly bring it back if everyone buys the last year model for $1000 more than list.

you're going to drop it.

you're going to rash it.

buy used. <---- that's a period there

This is NOT the last year they will be built.  Check the thread:

I also confirmed this with a local dealership today. No word on a naked version, tho.

i think people may be mixing the 500f with the new 650f.  as far as i know, i work at a dealership, the 500 is done in america

Well the MSRP is 5199 and the dealer is doing 4199 for me. Also, all the used GS500s around here are selling at pretty high prices. I think I would rather spend the extra $500-1000 and get a new bike that I know will be taken care of greatly from the beginning. And as for the dropping it/rash.. knock on wood. :)

I saw an ad in a local Motorcycle Trader for a "new" GS going for 3500.  I'd have to go to the website to confirm that because they may mean "new '06" or "new to you" but I was seriously considering getting one right now but I have the feeling I can get a better deal next year.  So to answer the OP's question: I'd pay 4000 OTD for a new 07 GS500f.  If I can't get it for that price (next year) then the new Little Ninja is looking pretty good.

I think I have always noticed a bunch of GS500's show up on craigslist etc. in the south east once the weather begins to get a little cold (say october/november). And we are far from there now.

Most of the good ones are $3500-$4000 and are one or two years old.

And yes you do have to sort through the chaff to spot the good ones.

Of course you do get a sense of security buying from a dealer, but the dealers in my neck-o-the woods were asking way too much for their used inventory.

I guess it depends on what you are comfortable with.

None of this should be taken as a swipe at anyone who has bought a new bike from a dealership.

I finally got my first GS500F. It's a 2007 with no miles (or at least none when I first bought it  ;)) I love it already!

ironically, i was going to sell mine  01 for 2700 the night that i got hit. however it had two practically new tires on it, incredible paint, no scratches etc. id  had even been complemented by complete strangers on other bikes on campus about how good of shape it was in. oh well, we'll see what the insurance company offers.

New to the site because I havent picked up my GS yet, but I just lined up the purchase of an 05 with five miles. Supposedly it sat in storage at a dealership in MD and the guys been paying intrest on it since he took delivery. Final frice after fees was $3550.00, cant wait to get it home.
