I have seen people quote major cheap engine shipping on this forum $40
Some have mentioned UPS, FedEx, Forward Air. Are you guys talking about like regular UPS?
Who does relatively cheap residential Shipping? I used forward air last time, and was kinda disappointed, especially for not being point to point.
the engine is crated and can be picked up with forks.
I'm not going to be able to do forward air, because this needs to go to an address.
Help is appreciated

These engines are heavy as hell.
With very light packaging you could get one right at 150lbs with no oil in it. 150 lbs is the UPS and FedEx limit before you have to use "freight" which is insanely expensive.
I just shipped a motor, with a wooden crate.. it was a base, and 4 posts and a top with heavy cardboard inside making the "walls" .. it weighed like 152 but they let it go, $90 to maryland from cali. I removed the starter, front sprocket, and sprocket cover to bring the weight down.
Well I won't be there then.
I made a full on wood crate, engine, and headers of exhaust.
I shipped a Ducati 998 motor Las Vegas to Indianapolis, same kind of wood crate, 214lbs, for $143 with forward air, terminal to terminal.
I guess thats not too bad given the extra 50 lbs over yours, but still not to a residence, and I guess that explains how some people ship them so cheaply.
So I guess the cheap route is to avoid freight.
I ship UPS freight all the time @ work.. Now, We have a deep discount so I dont know what normal prices are like but I ship entire bikes (crated) for under $150
just tried ups, they quoted between 500 to 700 dollars! geezus
this is also very fristrating if you are not a business and don't have an account number with them.
Fedex Ground.
Get a nice sturdy box just big enough for your engine ( With an inch or three to spare on each side..)- maybe even cut a 1/4 piece of light plywood to fit in the bottom... Get some of that hard styrofoam packing ( like Tv's etc are shipped in..) sit the motor down in the box on a piece of the foam. Pack the other big pieces of foam in there with the engine so it can't shift around... tape the box up nice.
Keep it under 150 pounds an Fedex ground...NOT FREIGHT will likely be under 100$ coast to coast. May have gone up a tad but I dunno. If you can take it to a drop off or terminal it will help I'm sure too.
I shipped one halfway across the US...was right at 150 pounds and I think it was 78$....if memory serves ( was about a year ago I think..).
