Title: Crankcase cover torque specs?
Post by: 07gs500 on September 27, 2007, 09:46:56 AM
I am going to replace the two small covers on the right side crankcase since they are scratched. These are parts # 11 and 13 as can be seen on www.bikebandit.com (http://www.bikebandit.com) . I have a 2007 gs500f. I was wanting to know if when I put back in the 3 screws, do they have a certain torque spec that is required? If it does if any one has one of the repair manuals could you check the torque spec for me? Also from what I understand there is no oil behind those covers correct? Thanks for the help!

Are you referring to the round cover on the right side?

If so... no oil, just the signal rotor and generator. Torque is something like 7 ft-lbs.

I am referring to the round covers on the right side. There is a plasitc one with the Suzuki name on it and a metal round one that sits behind it. I need to replace both.

Those logo pieces are just adhesive backed metal stickers.

Ok so let me get this straight. The Suzuki logo piece is a sticker that glues onto the metal piece? I need to replace both so the torque is 7 ft lbs on the metal piece.

I just replaced both of these on my 2001 GS500E last week.  I believe the cover was around $40 and the logo (comes with adhesive/glue backing) was another $5.  As someone else mentioned, what's covered in there is not the crankcase but rather the signal generator.  No oil in there, it's an electrical component.

I bought the parts from Bikebandit. Haven't got them yet. It made no mention of adhesive glue for the Suzuki logo cover. I assume it comes with it? :dunno_white: Also how long that take to dry?

They are stickers. Peal and stick.
