Title: first long ride!!!!!!!!!
Post by: mes_423 on August 09, 2003, 05:13:20 PM
well I took my first long ride today and took a drive through the mountains in northern arizona it was pretty cool, but aliitle unnerving.  I had alot of fun on the hills and the twists and turns. when I first started out I was nervious going that fast that long. but once I relaxed I had a blast. I have a few questions if anyone can answer them.
how long can I ride my bike going about 80mph
how often do I have to let the bike cool down for and for how long
is it safe for the bike riding it 80mph for a long period of time
thanks for any input guys and gals

80 mph is no probs, I go 80 for about an hr no probs..

If the engine is running cool (not lean) i dont see a problem even with arizona heat.

Let me put it this way, the GS is a favorite for light class endurance racing. It can go flat out for HOURS without any permanent damage. Re-jetting it will allow it to run a little cooler in the lean RPMs but isn't manditory.

no engine mods other than BobB's V&H advancer and i had my '01's mixture screw turned 3 turns out (it was all the way in).. that made my bike run a lot cooler at idle. Also pkasso and I carb synced the bike.

I would like to go finish the ride I started this morning but I can wait until it gets alttle cooler outside. I left at 7:30 this morning and got back at ten and there were riders going up when I was coming down. all I kept think was sucks to be you. I was sweating bullets on the way back, at ten in the freaking morning. but anyway yeah I didnt push the bike to hard cause I wasnt sure what I could take, so I kept it under 70 the whole time, man I felt like a chump getting passed. but next times a different story
