Brand new rider fresh out of an MSF course and glad to be the proud owner of a '97 GS500!! I recently purchased thingsbuilt's GS off of him. Few things wrong with it that I hope to be able to sort out. Other than that, I'm glad to be here! How many others on here are from the Los Angeles area?
kinda sucks that no one replied to your greeting. welcome, dude.
i did the msf course not too long ago this past june in costa mesa, ca. i grew up in the LA area but i've been living in OC since college. have fun on your '97. my friend that took the msf course with me bought a '96 and i bought an '05. it's a fun bike! :thumb:
Howdy, I am up in Ventura, but I 'll down in LA for the next 5 weekends taking a maintenance class. There are quite a few GS'rs out there, we had a ride about a month ago, there are plenty of nice places to ride in the Malibu area, I suggest the weekdays because it can get alittle crowded. Welcome to the forum, there is alot of valuable information here just have to weed through to find what you need to know. OK have a good one and ride safe :thumb:
Hello, hello! I'm based in SD but come up to LA every month or so.
hey jackal. welcome to the club. i'm in LA too. PM me if you want to ride sometime :thumb:
Welcome to the madhouse, have fun with your new GS. :thumb:
When you get it running, don't forget to practice your parking lot manuvers before you hit the street! Do you have riding gear yet?
Feel free to post your problems, we'll try to help.
Thanks for the warm welcome! I just stopped by the DMV and found out that the registration fees are insane so it'll be a month before I do any serious riding. Not a big deal since I need to get this bike running smoothly. It smells like it's running super rich and favoring one cylinder. I'm thinking that the carbs aren't synched and the bike needs new coils.
As far as riding gear, I've got helmet and gloves. Trying to find a decent riding jacket, but all the shops around my area have a crappy selection and Bert's is freakin' expensive. Anybody have a good suggestion for the San Gabriel Valley area in terms of riding gear stores?
I'll be keeping an eye on the meet and greet section so hopefully I'll meet you guys soon!
BTW Minos, I go to school in Fullerton. One of the reasons I got a bike. The 57 is killer in the mornings...
Welcome to the site and congrats on the bike :thumb:. Check the meet and greet I have a ride im putting on the date and location is TBD, so if you get your bike registered and running your welcome to come along, JAcket or no jacket im not one to tell someone to wear leathers in the blistering heat. Most if my summer rides whent with me only wearing golves, boots a helmet and my normal clothes.
I'm in LA. Santa Monica to be specific. Although you wont find me riding the streets (canyons) anymore, just the track. Welcome.
La mirada here......
Got done with my MSF over 1 month ago and might be picking up a GS soon.
welcome..
Be creative when shopping for gear, the best jacket i have is a leather Teknic jacket that some guy was selling because his wife couldnt handle him racing bikes anymore, it was pretty worn but man it is comfortable, like an old baseball glove. I also bought a Firstgear Jacket on Newenough.com but it just feels to light and too tight. Get a jacket that is made for motorcycling, I prefer the flack jacket feeling you may not. Just dont spend too much when you can shop around at some of the discounted sites, usually the same gear anyway. Also now is a good time because the '08 stuff is coming out so get '07. Cool, take it easy and ride safe. :thumb:
you could make the pilgrimage out to Chaparral: http://www.chaparral-racing.com it's in San Bernardino. They have tons of gear. I get most of my stuff from http://www.newenough.com

awesome! i live right next to csuf but i'm not a student. i'm a working man now but you'll still see me ride my blue '05 around the area. we should meet up for a ride sometime. we can do carbon canyon or even ride up brea canyon rd. into diamond bar.
anyway, i have the opposite commute. i'm in fullerton all weekdays and on the weekends i hang out in san gabriel. lol...
when you're down here in fullerton, go to cycle gear. occasionally, they have some great sales and you can get stuff pretty cheap. another option is to order from newenough.com. i just bought some alpinestars leathers from them. excellent service, free shipping, and since we're in cali; no tax! :thumb:
but yeah, just go to berts and try on everything and jot down your sizes. berts is mad expensive and not worth it.
I live in San Bernardino . we all should do a ride up highway 38 to big bear, fun ride it's about 50 miles each way.
Check out cycle-gear in anaheim for jackets, they usually have quite a few on clearance. I think oct 20th, saturday, is an additional 10% off everything in the store.
Yeah. Cyclegear is good.
I bought an Alpinestars leather jacket from some guy on Craigslist.
Theres always someone in the OC/LA area that haven't gone through the MSF course and get scared of riding when something gets hairy.
There loss our gain.
Holy old thread batman!
Welcome anyway - Im up the coast in San Luis Obispo
hmm i didnt even remember posting in this thread
