Title: Problem with shifting into neutral while bike stops.
Post by: asung on August 09, 2003, 09:38:11 PM
Hi,
I seem to have problem doing that on my 2000 gs.  any ideas?  I am not planning to do that at stop lights.  Just maybe in parking lots and stuff.  Thanks!

Check the oil level.  Too much or too little affects shifting.

Try to shift down to neutral from second.  It seems to work better that way sometimes.

NO. Its not a problem. the GS has a sequential transmission. it requires you to roll the bike either forward or backward until things line up properly for it to shift. Try moving it forward a bit and keep trying to shift.. itll work. Its when its sitting still that you have a problem.

in addition to rolling it to and fro, try letting out the clutch a bit to engage the gear then pull in again. Sometimes that changes the internals enough to make it easy to pop into neutral.

Try adjusting your clutch cable.
Takes a little slack out so it releases the clutch a bit more.
When everything is working properly you should be able to put it in nuetral when sitting still.
If it's still a problem, then shift into nuetral as you're coming to a stop. Slow down and shift into first, then put it in nuetral while you're still rolling, then stop.
