Title: Misc 89 GS500 stuff
Post by: bobthebiker on October 14, 2007, 04:41:36 PM
ok, in the deal with my complete 89, I got another 75% of a bike.  I have the motor, swingarm, back wheel, triple clamps and bar clamp, a headlight,  frame with no obvious damage,  a front master cylinder that needs rebuilt, and a few other misc little pieces.

I dont have any wiring for anything on it, no brake calipers(have a rear bracket though) no bodywork, and I dont have the exhaust or front forks.  also no front wheel.
aside from that stuff, if you need something, PM me, I MAY just have it.

I'd like to install some 89 clip ons on my bike, have everything I need to do that?

I have what you want. you'll probably need the whole top triple clamp, so $40 for the set including the bars.   right handlebar itself is bent, but you might be able to straighten it. I dont know.

This is generally not a safe practice, especially considering how thin the stock '89 bars are.  Not trying to butt-in, just wanting to give some safety-related advice.

is the bar itself replaceable or would it render it useless? I'd definitely take them if I can get/make a replacement. but yea bending aluminum doesn't sound like a good idea....email me at pjm204@lehigh.edu we can work out a sale

It looks like the bars could be replaced pretty easily so I will take them, if you could post pics or give some description of the condition aside from the slightly bend bad, that would be great

sorrt for the lack of organization in the picture, you can see the top clamp assembly right beside the motor on the left, right now its sitting on top of the triple tree in the frame.

(edit) thought I posted a picture earlier, guess I didnt.

Hey do you have a speedometer by chance?

no, I have absolutely no gauges.   if anyone has an Acewell 2801 gauge setup, I'm willing to trade for one.

The factory clip-on bars   are steel. If it's a slight bend you can probably bend it back safely...  Always better to replace bent bars tho.

Triple tree and clip-on bars are sold.  headlight is used on my bike for legality,  and the motor is for sale, if you need an individual part from it, like a cam shaft, pistons or what have you, thats how I'm selling it right now.   I'd really like all this stuff gone by christmas,  got some bills to pay.

I know you said you don't have the gauges but what about the gauge housing with the dash lights?

If you've got that, I call dibs.  I need the colored lenses from the dash.

nope. I dont even have those.  previous owner crashed my bike, which HAD gauges, up until the ZX6 front end swap, and I didnt get gauges with it, nor any associated gauge parts.

Bump. I found the speedometer for the bike, cant use it but I'm using the tach, (soon as I have a tach cable)    the speedo shows 10xxx miles on it, and needs a new neeedle, plus glass. but it DOES work.

two things: still have the frame, if so do you have a clean title with it?
second: what was involved with the zx6 front end swap. I have a 97  zx6 currently not running and an 05 gs that needs a front end.

No, I dont have a title on the frame, but I still have it.   it will probably be a track project in the end.

also, on the front end swap, I dont know what was involved as I bought it like that.  in fact, thats WHY I bought it.

Kawi and yammie bearings dont swap with the GS. I know Honda F2 and of course GSXR and Kat ones all swap over easy.
Well wait a sec there - I have a KX front end on my savage, which by itself is same as GS. OK so ... better check the OD of the Kawi bearings and if those are same as GS (47 and 50mm I believe) and they are the same thickness (15 and 17 maybe) and the span is close enough to GS (5.5 inch I think) ... you'd be able to fit it. You can machine down the stem a little (1mm or so dia) or sleeve up the steering head and get it all fitting too. Span being off too much will be a problem. Kat stuff we usually shorten or spacer out. Though I have been preferring to shorten. We got 2-3 done few months ago with no spacers at all, not even for the lock. Steering stop, dust covers, lock etc etc all work perfectly.
Cool.
Srinath.

I need the generator assembly (magneto, stator,  and starter ring gear)  from the engine.   If you are willing to sell, please let me know how much.  Thanks  Dave,   drtbkdave@yahoo.com
