multi-piece trellis 2-stroke 500.  Who can forget?

The new supermonos are pretty cool.  I've been wanting to do something like that for a long time...if my old house will ever sell then I'm going to stick a CR500R powerplant in one of these:

I got a GS frame and can't get a title. You think the GS frame is to heavy for a single?Since it would be a track bike,I could shave some wieght from it here and there.Pick up a full race fairing. What do ya think?  :dunno_white: Am I  :cookoo: for even thinking it?

I had a DR650 mocked up into a RG-V 250 chassis

supermono's are old skool

racers have been installing big singles in little chassis' for years

look up TULDA  or
OVER RACING

somebody a few yrs ago installed a CRF450 into a Aprilla RS50 chassis and had it street legal

the new supermono's will probably replace the 125 class in the big show

the biggest selling point of this is that they weight 240# dry (a full 100# less than a 600 supersport) and are 4 strokes...

moriwaki eh? will have to look into it. I'd want to do it on a total budget and stay under $4000. it'll be an ebay trackday thrasher special...oh I'm seriously thinking about it...

and this is a supermono in name only since its not a bit bore bike.

Pablo...keeping under $4000 is a fairly easy thing to do if you have any kind of fabrication ability and workspace.  That bike posted above (the Phoenix) can be found used for well under $1000.  It has 41mm forks and the innards are generic.  Building axles to fit GS wheels, and thus brakes, is simple stuff (though I work in a machine shop and have access to a lathe so "simple" might not be everyone's word).  Caliper hangers can be carved from flat stock to stick REAL calipers on it.  All in all about $750 worth of parts and materials.  The frame is absolutely cavernous.  I wanted to stick a CR500R engine in it but doing something like a SV650/1000 plant wouldn't be entirely out of the question...to give you an idea of sizing.  Good 500cc~ish thumper block you can get under $2000 pretty readily I think.  If I recall my entire project (CR500R block) was going to run me $2400 including the bike.

But of course when I think of projects like this I think sportbikes with thumper engines.  The things you posted are essentially motards with fairings and a little chopwork to the frames.

Did anyone realize that the rear caliper isn't touching the rotor? Therefore there is no brakes out back.  :nono:

wel, not really. Sure they start with a dirtbike, like a motard but where a 'tard adds 17" wheels and pretty much thats it, these have reconfigured geometry (due to front fork swap and rear ride height) to match a 250gp bike. So to me they're a sportbike that happens to have a single cylinder...much like a sportbike that has a vtwin or a IL4...check out the videos-they sound like a small vtwin more than they sound like a dirtbike. Dunno why but they do.

In defense...the caliper hanger isn't installed.  It's just "placed" in the general area for a pic.  However, it doesn't matter whether it's touching the rotor or not, it's the same braking ability.

Pablo, a lot of the motard people do adjust their geometry....some don't but, to me, it's essential.
