Title: Stuck Gasket
Post by: wildbill on October 16, 2007, 09:57:38 AM
I'm doing the valve adjustment on my GS. It's a 95 with about 9000miles. This would be the first valve adjustment done to the motor i believe. One hint i have is b/c the F*$#ing valve cover won't come off. I'm thinking there is gasket sealant on the top and bottom of the gasket, therefore making my life horribad as to getting the cover off. Is there any safe way to remove the valve cover without damaging the gasket b/c it looks to be in very good shape.

You did remove all 6 screws, right?

It is just a rubber gasket. Take a rubber mallet and tap the cover loose. The gasket will survive to be used again.

Lol yes i got all 6 bolts off. I don't have a rubber mallet here at my house but i'll go stop by a pep boys today and get one. Thanks for the help, hopefully it won't be too hard to get off.

*EDIT*

I just got it off. Got an 8oz rubber mallet, gave each corner of the valve cover a few good whacks and it loosened up, thanks for the tip.
