Hi all,
I'm new here (only my second post). Anyway I have searched the forum for "under the seat storage" and have seen that many have already explored this idea but I have not found any posts of anyone actually solving the problem (problem being that there is very little storage under the seat)
I have 2 ideas and was wondering if anyone has had any success with either:
1) Cut out the rear end of the fender and construct a box to fit. Need to make sure tire does not hit it during travel. How much clearance does that suspension need?
2) Move the battery down and construct a box in in its place. This would require reconstructing the battery holder. It would require some cutting and possibly some welding but it looks doable.
Has anyone done similar? Pics?

The biggest problem I have with the under seat storage is that it is not sealed and everything can get wet.... a tank bag solves both problems.
+1 on tankbag. + on not having to destroy your bike too.

I agree that if it is going to get wet then I'd just rather keep it in a tank bag or back pack. Given the 2 options I'd opt for the back pack over the tank bag. But there are times when I'd like to leave things secured on the bike out of sight (gloves, raing jacket, etc.)
I think that with some ingenuity under seat storage could be made water tight.

If your looking for permanent storage on your bike then top box is your best option. Securely fitted, lockable and water tight. You can store helmet, gloves, clothes, shoes, briefcases's loads of stuff you can fit in em and take em everywhere securely.
I use a top-box, I have full luggage for big trips etc but if I'm just running around I keep a cargo net under the seat for unexpected one-offs. Cheap'n'cheerful, actually free with a bike mag.
you have more room in your seat then i do in my CBR600 .. i can hardly get a hat in there ......
Get a net and cram stuff between that and the pillion seat.
A good one is less than $10. Cheapest way to carry things IMO :icon_mrgreen:
I am planning on option #1. I have done some rub test with Styrofoam and figure I can about double the tool pack area. I want to have a place for my small waterproof, shake charge LED light, 8oz container of oil and a few extra tools. It is a little ways down the road before I give it a shot, but when I do I plan on documenting it.
