I'm wondering if the tail section (the plastics, seat, and light) from a '01 and newer gs would simply swap with a '96 gs. If it's not a simple bolt on thing, what mods would have to be done to do it?
Simple swap... No.
Plenty of topics on the swap. New brackets for the seat, bodywork, grab handle & tail light are required.
I have done on one of my bikes.
I dont know about you guys, but I'd prefer to put an 06 GSXR600 tail on there, simply because it looks cleaner, and has that nice looking integrated turn signal setup that I feel is very pleasant. a lot of work to put it on, but worth it IMO.
how easy would that be to swap? I don't mind a little modification if it works, but no welding or other major changes.
I must be the only person on here that likes the old tail section.
+1 for the old tail bubba , and the fact ive got a undertray and no fender :icon_lol:
Actually, I'm not so opposed to the old tail section, but I want to update the look. Maybe just a better tail light. I've looked at just doing that, but I hate the one with the 2 circles that everyone seems to do. I don't know what it is about that one. Is there another one out there that looks good, that fits pretty easy? Doesn't need to be bolt in, but if I could make a bracket for it or something.
the GSXR tail might take a little work, but I'm going to venture a guess and say it MAY be doable without modifying the stock subframe. worst case, you cut off the stock subframe, weld in the bolt points for the 06 Gix six setup, and go. I'd imagine that'd work.
the tail light you're talking about, would be the R6 tail light? I'm not a great fan of those either.
I mounted up a pair of round trailer tail lights on my bike, which meant a new mounting bracket.
yeah, I think it is the R6 one. I've been looking at random trailor lights or anything that would do a better job. I think I might look into the gsxr light a bit more, and see if that will serve my needs
