Title: Where to buy battery?
Post by: roguegeek on October 24, 2007, 11:19:36 AM
It's been a while since I've posted, but all the miles I've put on a bike in the last year have been on my CBR600RR. I'm busting out my GS500E after a year or so in storage and need to get a battery. I remember I was referred to Chaparral a long time ago to buy a third-party battery. That one worked great and it was cheap too. Would love to find it, so something like it again. Anyone know where I can get a new battery? :dunno_white:

GS500/E/F come with a Yuasa YB10L-B2 battery which has the vent on the right side. I get a the YB10L-A2 or equivelant which has the vent on the left side from the Walmart or a local auto parts store which has the Everyready batteries and the part number is the same as the Yuasa except the first 2 letters are different. Just pull the drain hose up a bit and run it over to the left or pull it out and drop it down the left side. Batteries are identical otherwise. About $30-35 at the Walmart or the auto parts store. I forget the name of the one Walmart carries but you can tell it from the number. 10L-B2 is the expensive OEM with vent right and 10L-A2 is the more common lower priced left vent battery.

If you need a new battery fast, I'd go with gsJack's WalMart/auto parts store suggestion.  If you want to save a few bucks and don't mind waiting (and having to buy the electrolyte yourself  :icon_rolleyes:), check out this 2-week-old post (http://gstwins.com/gsboard/index.php?topic=38395.msg431187#msg431187).  (The links should be up-to-date.)

Yep, use the Everstart (Wal Mart brand) left vent 10L-A2.  Relocate the vent to the left side of the bike and you're good to go.

I've been running mine two years now without a problem.  Starts fine, down to 0F.   :thumb:

What should I expect to pay for a battery? (When the time comes.) I don't what to get raped by the price.
