Title: clear headlight?
Post by: shuluke on October 30, 2007, 11:52:21 AM
Hello everyone,

Does anyone know if there is a direct replacement for the headlight of the gs500e? Mine is a 2000. And the headlight is really bad. I see circular headlights that are similiar in size on other bikes but I have not stopped and measured. I want to ask before I buy something and try it. Any suggestions?

I did the sv650 swap and its pretty easy. it does require one drilled hole but if I can do it so can you-that easy.

check my site (direct link to the headlight install): http://pantablo500.tripod.com/id49.html

[edit: you can buy them for around $25 on ebay and/or the sv forums]

The gs's stock light isn't clear ? I don't understand.

IIRC most folks called the gs's light very bright. What gives ?

Like many older headlamps designed without the aid of computers, the gs500's lamp is comprised of a bulb, surrounded by a symmetrical parabolic reflector, and faced with a lens. The prism pattern moulded into the lens determines the beam spread, (which is specified by federal transportation agencies) and cuts down on glare.

Newer, halogen headlamps have complex, faceted reflectors that organize the beam spread (often more effectively) without the need for a lens. The clear cover you see on the SV headlamp is actually a polycarbonate shield, not a glass lens.
