Title: I need a few parts!
Post by: bigd2010 on November 04, 2007, 07:12:15 PM
Just bought a 2004 gs500f and I need a few parts. I need a set of mirrors, fender eliminator(if they have em), integrated tail light and anything else to make the bike have a bit more umph.

nothing you listed gives the bike any "Umph".

you listed pretty "Look at me Look at me" stuff

I said anything else to give the bike more umph. This implied that I would be open to performance mods that people had for sale.

Hi BigD2010,

The mods you can do to this bike are pretty much limited by imagination and technical ability :)

The most common mods  you'll find on the message board are probably:

-- Lowering the front drive sprocket a tooth from 16T to 15T (or 14t if you want a wheelie monster)... It will give your bike more pep, but you will loose out on top speed (but what are you doing up there anyway)... (about $25.00)
-- Front suspension... The front suspension on this bike is soft, to get more out of it... Upgrade the springs to something firmer. (about $80.00)
-- Carburator/Airflow ... Rejet and get a K&N Lunchbox ($40.00) ... or with new exhaust. ($400.00)

For more detail on what I covered, plus lots more; visit the Wiki: http://cgi.stanford.edu/~sanjayd/gs500/Main/Upgrades

Cheers,
J

I actually got a higher top speed because I could run right up to redline in 6th with my 14T compared to the 16T, where it would run out of steam.

And yes, I did test this against another bike, and no, I'm not assuming that redline with the changed gearing is higher than the old power-limited top-speed is, I know for a fact that it is (at least on my bike).
