So, like the title says, I was wondering what online comminity might be of help for my brother, who recently purchased his first bike - a 1996 Yamaha SecaII. Don't worry I tried to talk him into buying a GS though
He and I were wondering some things such as rejetting, etc. and were looking for some info. It's hard because we're 250 miles away so I can't really look and see whats going on when someone with more experience might know.
If anyone does have or had one of these guys, he is currently having a bit of difficulty getting it started. He says that he did pull the choke, but that it only comes out a little bit, and woudn't start when fully out. I told him to try putting it back in a bit and it starts but dies when he gives it gas. I don't know if there is some adjustment to be made to the choke, if the jets are gummed up or there is a better size, or if its just not starting cause its cold. Thanks again guys.
to answer your questoin,,, yes. what does yes mean, you ask?, well carbs prolly could use a thorough cleansing O0
perhaps this one? http://xjbikes.com/
I own a seca 2 as a daily ride for now.
Carbs can be rejetted but the freaking down drafts with tiny ass 28's totally destroy the damn cold and warm and sitting for 2-3 mins+ idling. I believe fuel condenses and runs down the throat as a liquid and screws up the jetting or wets out the plugs and kills the spark ... pitiful, open up and it runs like a beast (OK mine does). Its a good bike, but I rather much prefer side draft carbs at this point.
You wanna send me your carbs I'd jet them for like $150 (no sheiete, that's cheap those are some dumbass carbs).
But the overall idea is 1 up on pilots and 1 up on mains and 1 washer under needle, clean and re synch butterflies and set floats. I'd trade you mine - proven stuff, but I cant have it down for a couple days while I work on it. I ride it to work everyday. Maybe I get the virago working then I can do that swap. OK $200 for that if you want it - its 2 X the work.
Cool.
