Title: OK watch crystal broke
Post by: The Buddha on November 07, 2007, 05:27:09 PM
I clobbered it with the handle of my 1/2 inch ratchet while doing by seca chain. Ergo, the fake Cartier Santos now needs a new crystal. Its not my fault, I did that with the fake breitling and it never broke, I dropped it on my driveway like 30 times as well as several other mishaps of a similar nature.
OK so any of you smart hack's got a bright idea.
I aint spending no $35 and $15 shipping on some ebay sheite cos the whole damn watch was like 80 bones. So there ... that should make it easy.
I could be more careful, but then what would the fun be in that.
Cool.

Guys - watch repairpeople are out, its gonna cost more than the watch did at this point.
Yamahon -
Oooo ... you've come to the right place my friend and I knew I'd get some cool answers.
I had these fakeo watches bought in feb 07.
They all perform immaculately and still do. The breitling was eaily the most impressive - if you like the huge ass watches. The thing weighed near about 13 Oz and was an absolute show stopper. It had fake diamonds on its rotating dial face (both of which I would avoid as well as anything in gold color). I put it through everything. dropped it in water, gasoline, diesel, paint, acetone, on my driveway etc, also hit with my wrench handle several times ... it never skipped a beat.
I gifted it to my welder before I left charlotte.
I also opened up the dial one time and that must have fooked it up. It would condense when I was in very cold weather, like in my wife's car A/C draft. But sitting it on the dial will get it all on the dial, then open and wipe off.
I highly recomend it, or if you're really debating a real rolex - try buying a panerai with a ETA 7750 or a ferrari with ETA 7750. They both cost you close to $500.
Now about mine - its a cartier santos. I can take off the dial and send to you. Or send you the whole watch. But OK my budget excluding mailing is like $10-15. I am infact tempted to use it till it dies or takes in water or something and then toss it or use it for a science experiment. Fleabay had some santos crystals and they say its a sapphire crystal and its $35 and 15 shipping. I dont even want to try that.
Cool.

hmmm might not be worth repairing, a bit involved there, have to remove movt, remove broken crystal, remove glue residue, clean it htoroughly, put glue in proper place, install new crystal, let dry, re-sinatll movt.  then as long as you didnt fark up, your good.. until it dies again ;)

Well ... OK there is 8 screws on the top right by the glass. We unscrew that and off it comes, then we put silicone (yes silicone) and slap in new glass. OK you must remember - this is a fake santos - real santos stuff does not apply.
Cool.

ahhh rgr . that simplifies it quite a bit. wonder tho where you can find a crystal?, you might be able to try a jewelry repair business where you live at, most of them will handle minor watch work :thumb:

might be able to get it done for around half that. ( if you can find a smaller repair place) watch crystals are quite inexpensive ( for the most part) i found afew on ebay, and elsewhere, looking at it, if you can find one, just get some decent glue, and do it yourself  :thumb:

Oh, ebay dude had the santos crystal for $35 + 15 shipping.
Now can I buy a generic cos I think the fact that its a cartier aftermarket makes it $$$ ... like a HD aftermarket will cost 3 X a similar Jap item.
Watch repair guys have generic crystals - OK this is a square with a simple curve like it was made by rolling it with a drum, not compound curve that needs an english wheel.
Cool.

Yamahon ...
I have a genuine Seiko, and a few - like 3, fake swiss watches. All automatics and all working.
I have a 3 year service on the seiko which is prolly comming up summer 08 so I have a free service I should do.
I wanna get the fakes also cleaned and oiled cos the copies come notoriously under oiled. I hear.
You can do seiko authorised svc ?? and how well you know the fakes ??
This Ziggy Zumba guy sounds good, http://www.replicawatchreport.com/articles/watchmasters-corner/inside-the-best-replica-rolex-daytona.html
Mmmmm ... but I'd rather have someone I know do it.

Cool.

Hey, can you do like this dude ??
http://www.replicawatchreport.com/articles/rolex/review-of-an-asian-replica-rolex-submariner.html

Then I'll send you the fakes for oil/clean and find a seiko dude for the free seiko stuff.
Cool.

I mean, open up, get pics and clean and lube stuff, say what is bad, disable stuff if its likely to break the thing etc etc. I am hoping to have these crappy watches, last forever ...
Cool.
