very cool.

I knew you would enjoy that bike.I know they are rare.Do you know where to get more details on them?I know they are 50cc but there was a 70cc upgrade. The guy selling it told me about the upgrade. He don't have much history on these bikes.

WOW......Not seen one of them in a while......collectors items now. We got them over here in the late 70s early 80s, ours were 50cc and restricted to 3hp and 30 mph to accomodate learner laws. They were classed as mopeds and you could ride one on the road at 16 yrs old. Ones on the continent got 80cc and about 8-9hp. They did a trail-bike version called the MT50. Fitting a 70cc big-bore kit and a sports pipe to give few more hp was a popular mod and it looks like it been done on this one along with a few others like the clip ons and shocks. IIRC they originaly had a cable operated disc brake!......nice find, very rare. Do a search on MB5 or MT5 and you are sure to find something about them.

I always loved riding round on stuff that had as much horsepower as your garden mower

My 50cc Rieju was meant to be 8bhp 30mph but i bought it de-restricted to a whopping 12hp and could get 65 on the flat with my head behind the bubble.  :icon_twisted:

Man that bike was soooo much fun, you could throw it around like a push bike yet leave all the scooter kids in your 2smoker exhaust fumes!

I would guess the MB5 was a bit before your time kas :icon_mrgreen:...but not mine, I was 16 in 1981 and first started on bikes like this....happy times. These days its all twist-and-go scooters but back then the average 16year old had planty to choose from. The big four all did restricted 50cc road/trail bikes like the MB/MT, Suzuki did the X1/TS50/OR50, Yamaha did the RD/DT50, Kwak did the AR50 (best clolour was lime-green). If you were a real bad-boy you got an unrestricted but fitted with a chain and pedals like a push-bike AP50 or a FS1E (Fizzy) and the holy grail was the Honda SS50, SS stood for six-speed. Plus there was all the continental stuff from Gilera, Jawa etc. They are all collectors items now, highly prized and often worth more now then when they were brand new..........but no-one and I MEAN NO-ONE had a Honda C50 (or placks as we called them)..............oh happy days, gone forever.

These days everyone really is into twist and go but that aint where its at. Theres pretty much only 2 50cc geared "sport bike" models. The Rieju RS2  and Aprillia RS50. Obviously you get the trials bikes but they're not cool these days, they're too beat up and not cool. My Rieju was a 6speed. But no everyone likes twist and go i still like gears heh.
