Title: Brake Light Issues...
Post by: Fast Jetta 97 on November 20, 2007, 10:42:35 PM
Im sure everyone is sick of this kinda question on here.... but i need help...

Basically my running light (tail light) works, but neither the hand brake or foot brake will activate the brake light... i checked and replaced both bulbs so i know its not that....  I started tearing apart the handlebar break side, and found that i believe the brake switch is trashed....

WHERE IN THE WORLD CAN I GET A NEW FRONT BRAKE SWITCH... i have looked everywhere and cannot find one....

-Also i changed all 4 turn signals to LED's and since then they dont flash, just solid on when i hit the switch....
I tried changing the flasher to that tridon flasher thing and that did absolutely nothing.....

SO ANY HELP....

ALso bike is still runnin like S@@@ since i put the jet kit on.... NO IDEA WHAT TO DO...

Check the 1989 links on the [Parts Fiches (http://bbburma.net/Documents/GS500_Parts_Fiche_1.html)] page.  Look for item #5 under HANDLE LEVER (MODEL K) or Handle Lever 1989.  Looks like it runs between $11 and $12.

Can't help you on that one ... unless you'd like me to look up the OEM flasher?  ;)

Hmmm ... after putting in non-OEM carb parts, the bike doesn't run well.  Since it's been three weeks, you might consider restoring the stock jetting just to make sure that nothing else has gone wrong.  (http://bbburma.net/Smilies/dunno_black.gif)

PS - About the rear brake ... it's possible that the switch just needs to be adjusted a little.  See [THIS OLD POST (http://gstwins.com/gsboard/index.php?topic=11654.msg97642#msg97642)] ... especially the "PS" part.

your rear brake needs to be adjusted by the plastic tube connected to a spring down by the pedal. The hand lever has a micro switch attached to it and you might have unplugged it?

+1 to what Importbabe said. I would start there for the brakes. As for the signals, you need to install resistors in the circuit. I'm not extremely proficient in electronics but do a quick seach I know I remember reading about this problem before.

WELP, that is exactly right, the #5 part.  The Stop Switch.

-And i deff checked to see if it was just disconnected which would have been awsome, and its deff the switch... I took it all apart and took the switch totally off and the little part that push's in has no resitance, like you can tell nothings happening inside when you push it in and it doesn't come back out on its own... hahha, so its deff trashed....

SO... im gonna order that one ASAP so i can freekin have brake lights again... (YEAH KINDA DANGEROUS... HAHA)

As far as the turn signals, yea i read through tons of these forums about LED turnsignals, and people kept saying that you could just trade the stock turn signal relay for this Triton EL-12 flasher and they would work again, but that didn't work, so i guess its back to reading through em again and seein what i can find.....

Thanks for you help guys....

How are your schematic reading skills? John Bates and I have made simplified versions of the wiring schematics for the turns signals. Surely you stumbled across one of those in your quest for knowledge?

Pay great attention to the one named Starwalt and heed his word, for he knows much about about the volt and the amp.

Yeah im gonna try and look back through all the turnsignal diagrams and see what i can find....

Thanks guys... I will let yall know what happens....
