Title: rearsets suck ass
Post by: mach1 on November 21, 2007, 05:41:24 PM
So I got these ( (http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h15/nartone/IMG_3876.jpg?t=1181902540) )off ebay for not too much but they looked good and fit easily on my bike but they can hold weight for shaZam! I stood on the pegs the first time out to do a lil shimmy to loosen my pants and they bent and comming home from work today the right side bolt broke and I lost my peg these things suck ass.

I dont see anything bad about stock rear sets... they are not GSXR like but they do the work and are durable  :thumb:
what did you not like about stock ones?

Contact the seller and get a refund, that's a load of bullshit.  If that falls through, I'll buy them off you.

your bike is defective, sell it to me for cheap and I'll protect the public from it. hell, you can include the bent pegs if you wish

the metal is about 1/4 inch thick maybe more its pretty durable but they gave me some hay ass screws to hold on the pegs. the screws from my gixxer rearsets are about a 1/2 inch thick and these are 1/4inch thick once I put my body weight on them the rightone bent then today broke off on the freeway. I already drilled the holes bigger and added the gixxer pegs and they feel great I like them better than those crappy round ones plus they feel more solid, but Im still using the mounting brackets cause I like the position of them. And I didnt like the stock ones cause they were big and ugly and tooo low I used them once in the twisties and ended up scrapping my left toe in a turn so I wanted more ground clearence.
smartdrug: I dont think you want them, To mount them properly I have to drill and tap a new lower mounting hole and the frame is hollow in that area so I had to use locktite to keep the screw from vibrating out.

I sold my GS about 4 years ago, these would be for my Honda cafe racer project, I'd find a way to mount them.  Let me know if you feel like parting with them.

Post up the name of the ebay seller on here so we know who to avoid.  If you used paypal, try to get them to refund the money, not sure if that'll work though, but worth a shot.  He cleary sold you a defective product, or at least not what he was advertising.  I can make "rearsets" out of cardboard, spraypaint them silver and sell them for $200 too, that doesn't make it right.  If he doesn't offer you a refund, inform eBay.

narsurin<<<< that is the ebay SN. He sells alot of rearsets and stuff claiming including ones that say yoshimura. I just sent the guy an email I didnt ask for a refund but I would like one but I also asked for him to replace the failed ones with ones that are stronger and better quality.

Yeah I bought a set of him and they are CRAP i got them mounted and then decided that no it wasn't worth the risk and took them off, after reading your story glad I did. Narsin is a PR**K he abused me for pointing out that they are not genuine Yoshi in the feedback but hopefully others will read the feedback and see and not buy from him but I have seen others selling them as well so everyone be sure what your buying. As ebay have said if it looks to good to be true it probably is. :thumb:

Yea 600RR stock pegs will shear off if you stand on it. Go and try it, oh yea, you're skinny ass chineese girl It be OK. I know of someone who had that happen as he was starting to do a wheelie with fork bounce. Like pump your weight on it and as the forks bounce back, throttle open, and wheelie ... and the freaking thing broke right there.
Cool.

So after shooting the guy an e-mail this is what I got back VVVVV
Hi Joel,Please accept my profound apologies.I confess that I didn't check on the quality of this line when they were added to our stock.I was overseas at the time, and still have not caught up with the backlog of work.We will ofcourse send you a set of rearsets with the same mounting bolt hole specifications, that I know are good quality. At the moment,we have such rearsets in gold, red, blue green or purple, and if any of these appeal,we will ship directly. If you want silver,we will get a set and ship them before this time next week.If you would prefer a full refund, please say so,and I will paypal you your money immediately.Again,my sincere apologies for failing to check on the quality of goods we sell.We do not want to ruin our standing as an internet vendor for the sake of $20 or $30 dollars profit.
I just told the guy to send me another set. so we will see.

likely only because he's dropped his bike a bunch of times... nothing like that has happened to me in the years I've had mine...

Two quick things:

1.) Woodcraft rearsets for GS500's. Buy them, use them, love them forever. And support one of the only manufacturers that has always built quality product for us GS folks.  :thumb:

2.) Generic eBay shite, Raask rearsets, etc: Don't go cheap on ciritical components that have to bear your weight, that's all I'm sayin'.  :icon_mrgreen:

It really isn't that much work to make 900RR or F3 'sets work on a GS.

I miss my woodcrafts.... but I doubt I'm going to buy another set for the GS....

After going back to the stock pegs, the bike deffinetly feels.... worse.

I'd give the seller a chance to make the sale good. If he shipped the same junk, either he doesn't care, or you bought too cheap, or both.

The rearsets are load bearing, and because of that I wouldn't trust anything that looked cheap. I also wouldn't trust anything that didn't stand up to a jump-up-and-down-on-it test.

I've broken speedplay frogs (mtb pedals) and some TiME  carbon (roadie pedals) in my use. Both of which were replaced with Ti spindles, updated bodies, and the newer products labeled "superlight" also bore a weight limit sticker and cast imprint of "150 POUNDS OR LESS !" on them.

Good companies will make it right. Cheapskates will skate on you.

2cents :)

Peetey Pablo is just mad I am trashing his bike.
And a 600RR being crashed, the foot pegs are going to be the least of your problems.
The bike I was talking about wasn't crashed, It was wheelied like crazy, and it was also prolly peg scraped, though I didn't quite ask him. I just fell over laughing. The dude weighed like 200+ lbs. No peetey pablo type feather weight.
They are stiff, but not strong. Y'know, like peetey pablo.
Cool.

Woodcrafts are some the most durable rearsets made. The set I had on my GS survived a 60+mph slide and ground the peg to about 1". Replaced the peg and good to go. Another set that I have (unless I have already sold them) are for a SV. They have been bent from being down but I straightened them out fairly well to be still useable.

You get what you pay for.
