Took my brake pads off today but I'm not sure what healthy pads should look like so I took some pics and want your thoughts.

They look thick enough (= some life left) , as far as healthy? I duno
HMMM...
they look thick enough
they are awfully dirty though (I think? well compared to my old pads)
Why did you take them off? Why not just replace them-- no harm done with a set of nice new brake pads.
usable? yeah, I dont know if they're healthy or not. send em over and I'll check their pulse and temperature.
they're ok for right now, but a new set isnt a bad idea. dont forget to gently scuff up the rotor with some fine grit paper first to deglaze it.

I agree on both points. Whether or not you use them right away, it would be a good idea to get a new set for the upcoming swap. Then, when they come in, you can compare old to new and see what YOU think about the old pads.
BTW, although not all brands have "slots" in the pad material, those that do (like the stock pads on my '99) have a built-in answer to your question. If the slots are gone then yes, it's time for a new set. Any idea what brand & models these pads are?
Judging by the pictures you have plenty of pad left, watch the outside pad as it seems to wear first, or at least for me(maybe I have a stick caliper or something)
Kerry's thoughts bring on an interesting question (Sorry for semi-threadjacking, Tussey):
What pads do you guys run on your GS's?
I am using EBC pads, but I haven't ever been all that impressed with them.
IIRC the 'new' pads have a V to show when they've worn past optimal.
I don't see a V on yours.
I usually change mine when the V is gone. It's premature, but peace of mind is nice.

I think I'm still on my 3rd set of pads. You can see all three (front) sets in [THIS OLD POST (http://gstwins.com/gsboard/index.php?topic=18057.msg162293#msg162293)].
I've never installed a set of sintered pads, so I can't comment about more aggressive pad types. I've tried to stay "organic" to hopefully preserve my rotors ... I'm on my second set of those pricey puppies. :o
