Title: Any Socal guys ride GMR?
Post by: flyingmachine on November 26, 2007, 05:49:45 PM
All this time, I've never seen any other GS folks on GMR (maybe cause I'm only looking out for the naked ones).  I'm tired of everyone else in my riding group w/ their quintessential Gixxers (5) and such.  I'm usually there on Saturdays 8-12 ish, beatup red (faded to pink or primer on top) GS w/ a big'o windshield and tank bag.

I've been there a few times. terrible service up at My Baldy for lunch. avoid.
Roads arent great-no centerline, road luge guys, downhill bikers, motorcyclists...it can be crazy. If its close its what it is, but there are way better within an hour.

I prefer to hit up ACH/AFH  and occasionally Malibu when I'm venturing away from Bouquet Canyon up by Palmdale.  GMR is pretty nasty from what I've heard and read and seen... so I haven't made the decision to ride it.

hey man. its going. been distracted with other things lately... hoping to get some riding in soon. what happened to that ride you were planning?

GMR, like ACH is lots of fun on the weekdays. weekends, not so much... I do like me some Bouquet Canyon with a Lake Hughes chaser though... those and a few other roads up that way are good almost anytime on the weekend.

I find GMR more technical than ACH and less cagers by far.  Never ride the mnt Baldy section cause the lack of double yellow.  Any other recs for a similar stretch of tarmac?  I agree GMR is more crowded w/ bikers compare to when they first reopened it a few months ago.

Im doing some repairs to my bike and also doing some cosmeic upgrades at the time being. Once I get her done we should def. get a ride going.

Hey, I rode GMR a few months back. I branched off of Mt. Baldy Rd. to see what it was like. It was great. Really curvy, twisty route with beautiful, up-close views of Mt. Baldy's south face. When I was there, there were hardly any other vehicles on the road. I was there on a late Sunday afternoon. I can understand the concern about it not being the safest ride because of the fact that there's no center line and there being a lot of blind corners. But it's a fun ride. Go during the week if possible and make it a little safer for yourself.

I ride those roads frequently and I think they're great.  Very little traffic.  Biggest problem is squids drifting through the corners and deer running out in front of you.  Food and service at the Mt. Baldy Lodge are both great; the other place(s) up there are bad.
