Title: Healthcare outside of work?
Post by: makenzie71 on November 29, 2007, 01:28:19 PM
Anyone have healthcare plans outside of their workplace?  I recently changed jobs and I'm still a temp...no benefits.  Come this december, Kalee will no longer be covered under Texas Tech's healthcare plan, and I'll be her primary means of support...no more insurance from daddy.  If it were just me I probably wouldn't care about healthcare, but I need both of us covered.  Anyone have any suggestions?

For many years (until he turned 21) I had an individual policy to cover my son through Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas.  The monthly premium was fairly reasonable, partly because I chose a high deductible.  The key is to choose a deductible you can live with in case you have to actually spend it.    I chose to save the difference in the premium and put it in savings.

get a big deductable....5k
don't go for stupid stuff
pay cash instead of the deduct
if you really need it....operation/h-pital stay....it will be over 5 k....

and you might get the price down where it only stings a little when you sit down

easy ......move to canada =free health care ......the wife and i watched that michael moore film "sicko" the other day and yes i know he is very left wing ,( but thats another debate ) but even if half the sh#t is true what he says about the health care in the usa , thats very scary, if you don't have the money to get well , and the insurance plan "denied" peoples claims ..yes in canada we have to wait for certain things but once you get the referal from your g.p to the specialist and your in the system, things go very fast for treatment ... yes we don't get covered for all things , here in ontario for eg eye exams ,if you are between 18-65 you pay but seniors and minors are free, but no system is perfect ,if wee could only combind both systems , the spped of the american system and the free-ness of the canuck sytem things would be great !
