Title: Sources for chain and cogs ?
Post by: ohgood on December 01, 2007, 09:17:19 AM
I don't mind buying from my local dealer, if they're reasonable. I also don't mind sourcing one online if folks can recommend a good merchant.

I need a chain, cogs, and want to try some more upright bars. I'm aware I'll need to ensure the lines are long enough.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Side note: being sick for a week sucks.

I use this chain, comes with a clip type master link:

I moved my bars up and back with the GenMar risers:

Yes, DID is a great chain, so is regina and RK too. Somehow the total tensile strength being better isn't all that matters. That Tsubaki is the highest (or used to be a few years ago). On a street application, its how well iut holds on to its lube inside the rollers and how good the plates and pins resist wear. X rings are generally better and gas resistant too. They are neoprene instead of rubber like O rings. But yes DID is one great chain. I'd just spring for an X ring if it were mine.
Oh yea, I hate chains.
Cool.

I went from a D.I.D. X-ring chain to the same D.I.D. O-ring chain (with clip-style master link) that gsJack uses.  I liked 'em both.  Just for kicks, I switched to an RK O-ring chain the third time around (still with a clip-style master link) and it's doing just fine too.

Don't know if it will help, but check out [this 2-year old "sources" document (http://www.bbburma.net/Documents/GS500_Chains&Sprockets.txt)].  The link is also available from the Documents section of my home page.
