Title: TACH SCREW BROKE OFF!!! CRAP
Post by: rnicholas on December 04, 2007, 08:58:17 PM
Sooo.  I'm apparently more of a stud than my wife gives me credit for becuase I broke one of the bolts off on the tach when installing.  I wasn't turing it that tight!  but it was obviously too much.

Can I replace the screw, or do I need to find a new tach?

thanks

Which screw are you referring to?  Do you have a photo?  Can you describe it's location?

Alternatively, look up the fische at bikebandit.com and give us a call number.  Then we'll be able to offer better advice on what to do.   :thumb:

it is just the screw that comes out the back of the tach and holds it in.  There are 2, one on either side.

In this schematic:  http://houseofmotorcycles.bikebandit.com/suzuki-motorcycle-gs500ek-1989-speedometer-tachometer/o/m6049sch235833

Its the item that the washer #8 and bolt #9 screw onto.  Since there is no separate # I'm guessing I have to just buy a new tach.

If you want to replace it you need to buy a new tach. I tried transplanting a new one in (one I salvaged from a damaged tach) but it was impossible, without breaking the housing, to get the old stud out. I now ride around with only one side bolt in.

It's not that big of a deal. You can try rigging something up with epoxy, or glue. But it's not paramount to the function of the tach and one screw keeps it seated just fine.
