Monday, the 17th, I am either purchasing an '01 Gix6 or and '01 R6.
Just wanted opinions, though I think I've made my mind up.......
Gix6:
Pretty good condition cosmetically, the nose fairing could uses replacing eventually.
Re-jetted and V&H slip-on.
No wrecks and has maintenance records.
$3000
R6:
Wrecked shortly after purchased, front end was replaced.
Nose fairing is cracked and missing a chunk alongside the right blinker mount.
Tail fairing is cracked in a manner that might be from 12ing it.
Paint is horrendous.
Dealer wants $3971 but I've negotiated it to $3k out the door.
I'd say Gix all the way. Sounds like a better condition bike.
Yeah, that's the way I'm definitely leaning. The guy said he'd take a check and just hold the title until it clears. He was real cool about things and even let me test ride it tonight :icon_twisted: I lit that Buddha Loves You up!! It even popped a wheelie going from 2nd to 3rd :icon_twisted:
gixxer ftw!
Giggy 0.6k
Gsxr! :thumb:
I will be the outcast and say R6 :thumb: Mainly because I like them WAY more than the Gixer. My good friend has an 05 and I rode it more than he did this year as he broke his arm :icon_mrgreen: I loved it. I think I am going Cruiser this summer or I would buy this bad ass one we have in our showroom.
well, being the R6 sounds like it may have been stunted, and probably was, go with the gix.
id say r6. even if it has been wheelied. r6's run forever gixxers blow up.
I like the style of the R6 a lot more, but the history just makes me uneasy.
I called the guy with the Gix and told him I'd be there with cash in hand on monday.
The engine may blow up, but you can find em everywhere for $600 and it's only a weekend project :thumb:
He's going to get a carfax for me, too. I guess that will be a defining factor.
I've seen the report on the R6 and it wasn't registered until 03, but was bought new in 01...................... :icon_confused: :icon_confused: No reported losses, but it's been through some riders, I think I'd be the 6th owner.
gix'r all the way more comfortable
It was actually pretty comfortable :thumb: I was impressed.
And the V&H exhaust sounds freaking awesome!!
love the look and style of the r6 but the gixxer sounds like a much better buy for the money and no need to dump money into it.

That's why I'd go with the Gix... the R6 has been wrecked... I like the R6 styling better (even tho that's the 1st generation... I've got the 2nd gen... HATE the 3rd gen)
common for expert racers to race a bike for 2 yrs and put the street body back on before they sell it
hey Terry, what ever happened to the 87 gix you bought this summer?
how is this even a question?? gixxer!
gixxer, the yammi's had a 2nd gear issue
:icon_rolleyes: All super sport and superbikes eventually develop a 2nd gear issue.
The r6 sounds like it was used as a track whore, normally I hate gixxers but of the 2 choices you have described it is the better deal.
Also not uncommon for a 6 to 7 year old bike to have gone through 5 or 6 owners. People buy them don't like it get the newer faster shinier machine, can't afford insurance once they get it all sorts of stuff. The problem is they are popular with younger people so finding someone who keeps a supersport or superbike long term will involve finding something someone older has bought and is finally ready for a trade up 6 or 7 years down the road.
What I would really like to know is how a 2001 gixxer was jetted?????? The gixxer line was fuel injected in that year :dunno_white:
Yeah, sorry my brain took a shaZam!, it's an '00.
The guy is in his early 30's and doesn't seem the type to beat the crap out of an engine, He's selling because he bought a f%$king sportster :icon_rolleyes:
When I rode it, everything sounded normal and in spec, no clutch issues, no gear slipping, brakes were very responsive, and the engine absolutely purred.
Just waiting for my paycheck on monday so I can pay cash for it.

The 2nd gear issue is for the '03 I believe... I'm too lazy to find it on my R6 forum.

Like I said people buy them and they aren't their cup of tea.
My back can't handle the cruiser riding position, some people cant handle leaning over...
I got the better end of the deal :thumb:
I'm going crazy waiting for monday to come around. :icon_rolleyes: :icon_rolleyes:
OK 12 hours until I pick it up!!!!!!!!! I can't freaking wait!!!!! shaZam!, I need to pick up a pair of gloves.....
WOOHOO!!!!!!!!!!
I have the keys in my hand!!!!!
It was actually about a 20 mile ride back to work from where I picked it up, and the ride was an absolute blast!!!!!!!!
I'll post pics later tonight!!!!
  congrats on the new bike special T! :thumb: looking forward to the pics! :icon_mrgreen:
Flipping sweet dude!!!!
I keep staring out the window. I want to go ride!!!!!
coming back, I decided to play with a vette and absolutely torched it. It felt like it just instantly jumped from 60 to 110 :icon_twisted:
Easy there tiger.
With great power comes great responsibility.
60 to 110 is fun though :thumb:
60's a little low in the rev range for me to get a killer roll on though I like to spank it in 3rd and roll from about 80 thriough 140 :icon_twisted:
I rolled on at about 5k rpms, so I was not in the optimum powerband. Gotta love a 13k redline!!
I'm still at work so probably no pics tonight. I'm coming down with a cold so I'm going straight to sleep when I get home.
Ohhhhh, power wheelies kick ass!!!!!
Quote from: spcterry on December 17, 2007, 04:49:35 PMOhhhhh, power wheelies kick ass!!!!!
:icon_rolleyes: Squid.
You must be a featherweight....
Shoulda bought a Liter :icon_twisted:
OK, I'm home so I may get pics up tonight. :icon_mrgreen:
So, some fucktard in a pimped out Chevy Cobalt was trying to race me. I couldn't stop laughing
I may be a squid, but I'm a squid in full gear. I'm not looking to die anytime soon :thumb:
Litre??? Yeah, I'll probably be drawn in by the temptation in the next year or so :dunno_white:
OK, here's a pic, I'll get more tomorrow.
Ahhh.. Finally.. The pic. :thumb:
Nice new ride Buttercup :thumb:
Where did you buy that coffee cup fuel lid
Now, I get to start mod'ing it!!!
Airtech has a superbike tail for it and there are updated nose fairings floating around ebay on occasion :icon_twisted:
Yeah, the cup, It's full of theraflu. Underneath it is just your run of the mill Vortex twist cap, I guess with a little epoxy you could attach it.
OK, need opinions, should I get a tank bag?? I realized on my way home that stopping and digging out my wallet at the toll is a pain in the ass :icon_rolleyes:
Ya know.. I love my tank bag but... It scratched the shaZam! out of my tank. I still use it, but be advised... It may cause significant tank damage :thumb: Maybe try a tail pack that sits on the seat behind you. :thumb:
nice bike man :thumb:
No riding for right now, this cold is kicking my ass :icon_confused: :icon_confused:
I'll probably be a retard and ride it to the bar to play some pool tonight :icon_rolleyes:
Hmmmm, I gotta find that F430 and race him now
Nice looking ride but you should have bought my Daytona 955i...
OK, it's night and it's cold, but I have to go for a ride!!
WOOHOO!!! So, as my roommate is laughing at me this morning because I broke my starter switch, (f%$king spring popped out when I released it) I got to watch his face drop dead serious as I pop the seat off and short the Solenoid :icon_mrgreen: Well, I need to find a starter switch now.
Had a freaking blast riding :icon_twisted: and got a new top speed on the gix :icon_twisted: :icon_rolleyes: 134 :icon_rolleyes: she was no where near topped out either :icon_twisted: :icon_twisted:
hmmm, an people wonder why riding claims so many lives each year :2guns:
It claims those lives because of poor judgement, not because of someone having a little fun on an interstate with no vehicles in sight for miles :thumb: When I'm in traffic I usually do 5 under or dead on speed limit, I'm very cautious.
generally speaking it's not normally the rider's fault the accident occurs. many accidents occur becuase of soccer mom in the minivan on her cellphone late for her hair appointment trying to light a smoke and drink her coffe and yell at the brat in the back with no seatbelt. :2guns:
Despite the fact that it is a very serious matter, I can't help but chuckle a little when trying to imagine someone talking on the phone, lighting up, drinking coffee and yelling at the kids all at once :cookoo:
Some soccer mom in a hummer almost whacked into me today, I honestly don't think she saw me, the truck must have been lifted a good 10 inches :icon_rolleyes: I noticed it though, and rolled on the throttle and got the hell away from her :thumb:
maybe the rising gas prices will help mc riders out a bit. if those huge suv's get too expensive to drive then the road may be a little safer. it sucks for me though. i'm looking at getting a bigger vehicle. my kids are a lil crammed right now. i'm thinking along the lines of a Pacifica though. 7 passenger seating and decent mpg. :thumb: oh, and back on topic. glad to hear you're enjoying the bike special T
You want insane mileage and tons of room?? Get an old school mercedes diesel wagon :icon_twisted: 40mpg and better reliability than most new cars on the road :thumb:
The new bike: It's freakin awesome, I miss the GS but the upgrade is proving quite fun :icon_twisted:
I need to find some people around here to ride with.....
i wasn't saying you lacked skill, or was doin it in traffic, but how many people gettin new super sports do that? and how many have even been on a bike period before jumpin on a supersport? besides that, anything can happen at 130 mph, tire blowout, wildlife crossing road, potholes, etc. gear is good but not many people live thru a 130 mph slide
Another pic I took after getting to work:
Much better pic than the first. Actually looks half decent in this one :icon_razz: No, seriously, that's a nice lookin ride. Congrats :thumb:
She's proven a damn fun ride so far. I actually got the chance to bail out of work early and went for an 80 mile ride. No comfort issues so far :thumb:
I'm getting the crap together to do the typical new vehicle maintenance and will probably knock that all out sunday. I'm going to flush the cooling system and go to a 50/50+waterwetter mix, change the oil, change the plugs and try to get an idea of where the jetting is. ( It doesn't feel far off, I'd bet it has a DJ kit, just needs a little fine tuning)
Well, got everything changed and she's purring like a kitten. I only got her warmed up briefly, however the water wetter seems to make a marked difference.
glad to hear you're enjoying the new ride. i imagine the winters are a bit nicer to you than they are here. it snowed a bit today, not much but still snowed.
Yeah, it was mid-60's here all day :icon_mrgreen: :icon_mrgreen: :icon_mrgreen: unfortunately it was off-and-on raining all day too.......
and um...call me a moron....water wetter special T??? :dunno_white:
Coolant additive produced by Red-Line.
ah. okay.
Well, I'm debating getting in a good 250 mile ride tomorrow. I'm going back to GA for a new years party, I'm just not sure if I'm going to be ready/want to ride back new years day :icon_rolleyes:
Joe,
I had a 97 GSXR600
it was awsome
I sold it to finance a season of endurance racing in....02
WFO till ya see god is legal on the track
WFO next to some jackass in a $140k Porsche may not be legal or safe but it's entertaining as hell when he realizes that his precious car just got stomped by a bike that cost a very minute fraction of what his car cost. I've heard a lot of good things about the SRADs and it has certainly been a lot of fun so far, though I'm tending to be cautious as I've yet to register it and I'm just now getting to where my driving record is clean and I'd like to keep it that way for a while. ( Seriously, in 3 months my only incidents will be a seat belt ticket and being the victim of a hit and run )
HOLY RETARDED ASSHOLES!!!!!!!!!!!!
I went by the shop to pick up some chain lube and the R6 I was considering was still there, go figure. :icon_rolleyes:
The real kicker was the 4600 price tag on it :cookoo: :cookoo: I laughed like hell, these people are retarded. They have an '01 SV with 45k miles bone stock, and a torn seat that they want 3200 for
What a bunch of retards..........oh well, that's why their bikes just sit there instead of selling.
WOOHOO!!!!
Found another rider on the island, and he rides a 748 :o that bike is crazy f%$king nice :icon_rolleyes:
Saw a shiny black Ford GT today. That thing was making a killer sweet rumble. Too bad it can't beat a 600.........................
This damn thing is WAY too much fun.
stick with suzuki
