Title: The "biker wave" - a little humor for the holidays
Post by: houston_gs500 on December 18, 2007, 11:13:40 AM
Seasons greetings from Houston.  You guys/gals ever get into discussions with other riders about the "biker wave?"   Yes, that little hand gesture that some give, some don't, some yearn for, some think is a noob thing, and is the envy of all people in cars.

There is a great video at the bottom of this thread, take a gander (scroll down all the way):

Also, the articles on this link: http://www.redztread.com/roadrash/wave/ are dang pretty hilarious.

Take care <<...gives biker wave as he drives off :) >>

Pete

We give the "biker's nod" over here in the UK. Very rarely do we wave to each other unless we know them. If we see police we flash the headlights, this courtesy is extended to bikers when your in the car too and a fellow biker is coming the other way.

......unless your on a BMW or a HD who only nod at each other, its a known fact that owners of these bikes see themselves as superiour beings with superiour machines and never acknowledge anyone on a Jap bike. My Dad rides a BMW and I take great delight in returning the favour and ignoring him when I see him out and about

We generally refer to those as squids Yama and they don't wave because they're busy adjusting their Oakleys that won't stay on because they don't have a helmet on.

I nod a lot ... usually cos I got clutch in 1 hand and cant let go ... or the median is too high and I gotta lift my hands over my shoulders before they can see it. Just faster to nod.
BTW some clowns on the sabre/magna group ~10 years ago came up with a nod for sab/mag only. Pretty soon there were people who devised one wave for all, one non wave for HD, one nod for sab/mag riders and one nod + wave for sab/mag riders who are on that site. Somehting stupid like that. Took like 20 seconds to get it done ... so unless you're stopped at a light you're screwed ... That is why there are no sabre/magna's on the road these days. They all crashed them  ... naaaa ... they are complicated, heavy, poor handling, pieces of junk with no redeeming qualities.
Cool.
Srinath.

i dont know if daytona is a weird place or not...but i would say 90% of riders do some kind of acknowledgement. Wether it be a wave or a nod.  The only real time i see it go down the drain is when you get the special events in town and then everyone becomes divided.  hd waving only to other harley's.  sport bike riders waving to each other and the harley guys..but just to piss them offf.  And i do a big over the head wave at the bike cops  just for fun..

No one here waves or wears helmets :cookoo: :cookoo:
There are 3 'regular' cops I usually wave at just to be friendly but the rest of em I try to not attract attention.(they're all in cages though)

i waved to a mc cop in phoenix while he was making a turn, ... he waved back and promptyly dropped the bike ( a kawi i believe ( they were upgrading to hds) i DID however help him right the bike, actuall i righted it. heh after that, i never did have any trouble with the cops :icon_twisted:
