Title: Rear Sprocket?
Post by: Fletch on December 20, 2007, 02:50:17 PM
Hello,

Just bought a new 2007 gs500f (blue/white) last Summer & I am doing a few upgrade to it this winter. I just purchased the Yoshi Carbon Fiber pipe & also a K&N Filter (wiil get it dyno tested in the Spring).
Now I have been looking into rear sprockets, If I go with a 42 tooth sprocket will I notice a difference on the pick-up? I have seen some nice anodized blue sprockets on the Vortex website. What I want is a rear sprocket to give the bike a little more kick but not loose too
much top end. What would be a good size to puchase?

Suggestions anyone?

In my humble opinion 43 tooth is the absolute perfect combo between pickup and keeping a decent topend.    Its right smack between what you would get with 15 and 14 front sprockets.   You loose 9 mph off your speed in 6th gear.

I think you should go with 15T front sprocket. A lot cheaper than rear, easier to install, better pick-up than stock 16T, doesn't kill the top end - it rather helps utilize the whole RPM range - I'm sure you know that GS500 is to weak to get to the red line in 6th gear - so having 15T is perfect solution in my opinion.

Do whatever suits your needs best

15/41 is my favorite combo.
