Title: Modification of rear turn signals
Post by: ridemyown on December 22, 2007, 02:56:05 PM
Hello everyone...I want to remove the rear turn signals on install a intergrator kit, this will also eliminate the area where the license plate is.  Does anyone have detail pics/info on the wiring harness, or has done this before? :dunno_white:  So, I have some tips, info on how to proceed with this?  Thanks! :thumb:

do you have an integrator kit? Your best bet would be one from clear alternatives that way you get amber turn signals in the taillight, you can also modify the original taillight but imo a flashing red bulb will mean nothing to some1 behind you especially if its in the taillight.

I been searching. There is a write up on how to intergrate the signals without having a kit,but I can't find it.It was real simple and free to cheap.

A few have performed this mod but have not posted an actual schematic of an "after" modification. There are several threads here with my partial schematic, a hacked Haynes schematic, and  other information on this.

Are you wanting to totally replace the tail light and turn signals with a integrator kit (probably LED I suppose)?  If so, that opens up a slightly different case because LEDs don't just drop in and run well without some fiddling with wiring and/or replacing the turn signal relay (if a load dependant relay is already installed).

In short, you could be famous if you documented this modification well.

Nah. Not really famous but, moderately respected in the GS community. Small children will not point to you in public though.    :laugh:

I followed a writeup on how to use a trailer hitch converter to integrate the blinkers into the brakelights in the How-To section:

Thought i read that somewhere, that only problem i can see with this is that the actual light used as the signal is red and to many drivers a flashing red light will mean nothing especialy in a taillight.- which is why i mentioned the clear alternative tailight which has amber signals making it that much more noticeable.

clear alternative is the company;
if you have an +01 link (http://clearalternatives.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=CA&Product_Code=CTL-0026-2-IT&Category_Code=Ckear.GS)
if you have 89-00 link (http://clearalternatives.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=CA&Product_Code=CTL-0004-1-IT&Category_Code=Ckear.GS) - theres no picture for this one tho.

OOoooohh..I like that!  :o Now it's works as turn signals also?  That's what I want to do...eliminate the turn signals all together.  Front and back...figure I'd do the back first.  I cut most of the ugly rear mud flap off, so that looks better, but still want the sleek look.

Your "projectile" is in great shape.  Ride safe!

 8)I WOULD MOUNT SOME FLUSH MOUNT SIGNALS ON THE TAIL FEARRING INSTEAD.  ALOT SIMPLER TO DO AND DEFINATLEY WILL ADD TO YOUR SAFETY ON THE ROAD.  PLUS YOU'LL GET THAT CLEAN LOOK YOU WANT. OTHER THAN THAT, YOUR BIKE LOOKS FANTASTIC :cheers:

thanks for the input...I was just talking about using the flushmount ones.   Exotic sportbike has them (LED) for $12 a pair.  the pics of the bike are not mine....another user here...and R1.  Unless you have seen my profile pic?  I like the intergrated kit with the clear lens...very cool.  however I am into the safety factor also.....already experienced a 19 yr old not looking an cutting me off....totalled the Boulevard I owned.  blah!

anyway...thanks again!

The R1 tail light was the first mod I done a few days after I bought my bike.I had only had my bike about a week when those pics were taken. The clear tail light is just the lens.I haven't done an intergrator yet.As of now I have no signals on my bike, but I ride very little.
