Title: Battery help
Post by: jaypeezy215 on December 28, 2007, 03:54:51 PM
So my battery for my 2004 gs500f is dead. I think the mechanic blew it up since he put it on a car battery charger. So my question is, where can I buy a good replacement battery? i also read a thread about battery levels and such and i was wondering what it meant? I'm trying to do it right since i've heard GS's have a reputation of draining battery life. Thanks alot in advance!

My battery has held up pretty good, I have been using a Battery Tender Junior and just plug it in when I get home at night. I will eventually get a new battery and I am considering going to a AGM battery. I have talked to a guy in LA at Bikebatts.com and he said he could send me a charged AGM battery ready to go. On his website he lists a YumicronYL10L B2 for $32.00, but he said he could get me the AGM battery. So, I am pretty sure that is the way I am going. It is worth checking out if you are in the market. http://www.bikebatts.com/product_info.php/products_id/172

...and where did you pick up on this?.......as far as I am concerned its BS. A good quality, properly maintained battery used in a GS with a properly functioning electrical system will last for years. The Varta battery in my GS is over 7 years old now and still going strong.

I'm wondering the same thing. Maybe it's new riders that think letting a gs sit for 3 weeks at a time and then only riding it for short trips ? Dunno.

I replaced the original battery (3,000 miles in 10 years isn't enough) from the PO a little over two years ago. I've replenished the distilled water once that I remember, and charged it off bike twice. It hasn't failed yet. 20,000 miles on the bike now  :thumb:

I guess I was wrong! I just remeber being todl that Gs batteries have to be maintained especially well. Thanks for proving me wrong! Well yeah, still in the market for a new battery since im sure mines is gone. I've had it on a tender for 3 weeks, went to start up the bike and it didnt budge no lights nothing so yeah I guess I'm due.
