Title: Mega-Cycle Springs-A usefull adition w/ stock cam?
Post by: coll0412 on December 29, 2007, 01:59:09 PM
I am going the race bike this winter and am going to mill the head 0.020". Since I plan on running stock cams, is there any benefit to going to the supposedly stiffer mega-cycle springs. Will this help push the rev limit past the 11K mark, or in my case just provide more insurance at high revs that I don't destroy the engine.

They will allow higher rpms with less valve float. Not sure if there is any power gain with the higher available rpms on a stock motor. There is no real harm in using them.

I gained about 2-3000 rpms before float. On my 555 w/ MC cams, it would continue to pull hard through the rpms untill float. I had to float the valves to see where the new max rpm was.

the $30 dollars then sounds like a good insurance policy against self-destruction via valve float
