My guess is the problem is due to either carbeurators or the fuel petcock.

How fast were you going when you started experiencing the fuel starvation?
If it wans't very fast, then it isn't the fuel petcock and you probably need t clean the carbeurators, set properly the float level and suchnronize the carbeurators.

Cheers,
Jenya

if the price is right go ahead and buy it.  with all the help you will get from this site you should have no problem fixing it. just talk the guy or girl down a little since it has running issues and fix it when you get home.  If its the petcock thats a cheap and easy fix.  If its the carbs then its a couple hours of tear down  and rebuild nothing major.  I believe there are a few walk throughs on the site.

You might try ebay for a tank. I believe multiple years will fit the 89.   also, put an inline fuel filter on the line coming off the petcock going to the carbs. you'll be glad its there when you have that much less dirt flowing into the carbs.

<10 posts and you've torn apart the carbs. You're gonna fit in fine here ;)

You got a really good deal on a gs, provided the thing isn't about to grenade itself or something.  ;)

fleabay and craigslist (you can search nationally) are good places to look, and get familiar with your local graveyards for parts. if the local guys know you're looking for an xyz, they might just give you a call to turn an easy buck  :thumb:
