Title: ANYONE Have any ideas for LED Christmas Lights?
Post by: scottpA_GS on January 02, 2008, 05:28:30 PM

Hey guys..

The After Christmas specials have begun. Around here, I have seen LED Christmas lights for $2.99 for a string of 50 ??? Well, I picked up a string to play with, and THEY ARE BRIGHT AS HELL!

Anyway... I looked at some discussions on how to use them for 12V and was wondering what ideas you all may have for them  :thumb:

If I can find all red I am going to pack my R1 brake light full of em!  :icon_mrgreen:

What would you do with them?... non bike related ideas welcome too

I'd say just stuff as many as you can in the gs's taillight lens and see how it looks.

Then again, they're prolly wired in series, and if ONE goes, they all do.

I'm going to hunt some lights now since you've mentioned it.

If you could get 150 or so of them in there, and stupid glue them all in....

Do you have to do anything special to get them to work with 12VDC?  Being LEDs, I'd think they would have to be connected in one direction and not the other ... but do they light up with 12V as-is, or do you need any kind of circuitry to boost the voltage?

Yes, you have to cut them appart and wire them a bit differently. Also you need some resistors depending on how and how many you use...

I plan on putting about 20 in my tail light  :thumb: and perhaps make some turnsignals as well  :thumb:

I have my wife out looking for solid color strings  :thumb: right now I only have the multi color.

My gix came with little LED 'pods', for lack of a better word, that are modulated to flash rapidly when I apply the brake.  I've actually had people comment that it grabs their attention pretty well.

Yep... $24.99 for 16 LEDS...

When they call them "Christmas Lights" they only cost $2.99 for 50!  :o And the sets I have are WAY brighter than those...

Whats funny is.. these Christmas LED strings are already in   "expensive"   housings... meaning that each individual "LED light" is already in a water-resistant housing... This means MANY more applications.. I think ???

I think there is more to come!  :icon_mrgreen:

P.S.

right now IM drunk...  8) Sorry if i don't make sense
