Title: 06 motor in a 93
Post by: kllrvet on January 03, 2008, 12:52:08 PM
I just installed an 06 motor in my 93. The one question I have is about the oil cooler. The new motor did not come with it, instead it had block offs where the lines would attach. I need to know if the motor is safe to run with the oil cooler lines blocked off.

Thanks so much,

Tony

How's about you take some pictures of the oil line locations ? I've thought about adding one to mine for those really hot days. Maybe even a little fan from a crapped out PC just to be geeky.

No, I do not know if it matters, sorry. Just bumping your thread.

The oil cooler was added in '04 - when Suzuki added a fairing that blocked a lot of the airflow around the engine.

The engine itself hasn't really changed otherwise, so I'd say the oil cooler is NOT necessary on a "naked" bike ... but hopefully someone who lives in a country where they sell '04+ bikes both with and without the fairing can tell us more.

This motor has provisions for the cooler, so while it may not be need for cooling, it may be need for proper oil flow.

OK ... but if the oil cooler MUST be hooked up, why wouldn't they have bored out the holes to make SURE one got hooked up? (http://bbburma.net/Smilies/dunno_black.gif)

I believe Kerry is right, however if you are concerned with flow you could alway just loop the two ports together with some fittings and oil line right?

I only have a couple of pics to go by and no diagram, so I do not know all of the details regarding the 04+ models....

Since there is only 1 oil pump, a restrictor has been added to force the oil through the cooler via the additional oil lines cast into the cases and oil pan. This restrictor can be seen behind the oil filter. I would not just plug the cooler supply & return holes without removing the restrictor.

Like suggested, another option is to make a jumper hose to connect the cooler supply/return in the oil pan.
