Title: horn issues...
Post by: cunighthawk13 on January 06, 2008, 11:54:35 AM
I have an '06 GS500F. The horn stopped working a few weeks ago. Well I thought no problem...just order a new one and put it on. Well I just put the new one on and all it does is click. I checked the voltage and it is getting voltage through the horn and to the switch (it is switched on the ground side I guess). I close the switch and it clicks and holds. Well I figured maybe a bad switch so I just crossed the two leads on the switch (which should close the circuit in my opinion) and again, just a click. So I closed the circuit from the hot side of the switch to the negative terminal of the battery and again just got the click and hold. Could I have gotten a bad horn? Any suggestions/ideas??

Did you try the adjustment screw on it? Hold the horn button in as you/ someone else adjusts the screw on the horn in and out to find its inner beep beep :thumb:

Yea the screw on the bottom controls it from a rattle to pitch.  Depending on what you like.

The old horn was stock. I did check it for an adjustment, but there wasn't one. I think it just crapped out from age/rain/dirt. The inner diaphragm doesn't really move well either so I just went ahead and spent the $10 instead of messing with it...

Hey guys,  I have a new '07 and my horn isnt working and I'm thinking I have to adjust the screw on the horn.  The problem is I dont know where it is exactly.  Could anyone take a pic? or give  a verry detailed description for a newbie like me.  Behind the horn is like a plastic covering, is the adjustment screw in there, or is it elsewhere.

Oh and my bike is still under warranty if all else fails ill bring it, i just dont want to go through the hassle if its an easy fix.

Thanks

I bought a Freeway Blaster-high tone from Auto zone or advanced. $17 and they let me test to see if it worked on the bike. EXACT FIT, but waaaaaaaaaaaay louder ! I would recommend it as a safety upgrade to anyone.

If you're still having trouble, see your doctor and get some little blue pils.

Some horns are adjustable, some are not. If it is adjustable the screw will be on the rear of the horn body itself and will probably have a locknut on it, its more for tuning than adjusting the volume. Moving the screw in and out adjusts a set of electrical contacts inside the horn that over time wear but you will invariably find that by the time the contacts do need adjusting the screw will have siezed-up.

They are dirt cheap, buy a new one.
