Title: Question on Bar ends?
Post by: shuluke on January 12, 2008, 04:43:08 PM
What fits our bar ends? I am looking on ebay for something cheap.. Would anything that fits any Suzuki fit on our bar ends? I search GS500E bar ends and to no avail. Any help is greatly appreciated. 2000 GS500E if that helps. I have searched on here, but keep getting broken links..

First a question: do your current bars have a threaded plate in the ends?

If so, then you will want to buy the stock bar ends from Suzuki (they're heavier, too, for better vibration dampening).

If not, then any bar ends that fit 7/8ths inch bars will work (some will still need to be filed down a little).

Thank you for your help. I think they are threaded, but I will check again and if I am not sure ill post a picture on here. Thanks again.

Your 2000 should have the threaded insert, like this (ignore the rust if you can):

Is it #11 from bikebandits website under OEM parts? Or do I just need 13?

You definitely want to get item #11.  The one item in the set that is not numbered is a heavy, solid, lead-like insert that helps to dampen vibrations in the bars.  If you could order that part separately, you might be able to get away with ordering it and item #13, and then doing something else for items 12 and 14.  (See my [Throttle Retainer (http://www.bbburma.net/ThrottleRetainer.htm)] page, where I end up not using either piece.)

But since you can't order the "lead weight" separately, I would go ahead and get set #11.  Be sure to compare prices between at least the four sources listed on my [Parts Fiche (http://www.bbburma.net/Documents/GS500_Parts_Fiche_1.html)] page.

Couldn't u use the other type and just replace the screw with one that fits the bar?  :dunno_white:

Its funny but I have had only 1 of 2 since I have owned the bike and have never noticed the vibrations before. Everyone says the vibration is bad, if I order the whole set, think ill really notice a difference? Thank you for the information, I will compare prices tomorrow and decide on something. Thank you again,

Shuluke

PS. How do I find out the shipping cost on each one without giving any credit card information?

Ordered from bike bandit. Also got a small discount for being a AMA member. Thank you for your help.

Don't know if this helps anyone now, but my hubby took his bar ends off of his DR650 and put them on my GS, since mine were tweaked. Perfect fit. 2001 GS, 2005 DR.

Seems about the same when we get comparable parts, but he just decided he didn't want his   :cookoo:   so he gave them to me, since mine were tweaked and they're expensive new. Seems there are a number of interchangable parts on many Suzukis, which makes sense.
