I just installed the Symtec brand grip heat elements. As my 2007 gs500f is still under a warranty which i rather not void, i didnt want to cut anything i cant hide. I started looking around at the wires that feed the headlight. I noticed the bulb under the headlight has wires permanently attached to its socket, then go to a clip connection thats spliced from the headlight feed. I cut one of those wires to feed the power to the heat elements, thinking i can just replace the bulb if i ever have to take it in for a warranty issue.
I may have swapped the high/low connections on the switch, but after a short 15 min ride i hardly noticed any heat in the grips.
Does anyone else use these heating elements? How long do they take to warm up? Did the line i chose to feed them not have enough juice?
I think I have the same one's, and will check to make sure after today's Doc Wong ride.
I have mine on the high setting, and they warm up quite quickly, especially the right one, and can feel the heat through my thickest of winter gloves right away.
Check your connections, and check that they are to the correct tabs on the switch. Ground wires to ground?
These heat elements don't need alot of juice.
My connections vibrated loose on the first ride.

After looking at the wiring diagram I would say splice into the orange cable, it only becomes live with the ignition turned on.
I tried again, this time splicing into one of the orange wires that i think powers the lights on the tac/speedometer. Still no luck with the elements. Either im picking weak wires to cut into, the switch is dead, or the elements are dead.. chances are im just picking poor power supply.
My haynes manual was lost in the mail, so who knows when the company is going to get me another copy.
Anyone know where i can find a wiring diagram online? Any other suggestions as to what wire to use to power these things?

The wiring diagrams are around and the Haynes one is in color. Let me do a bit of searching...got it....

Hah. Seems i spliced into the high beam indicator light.. no wonder it didnt work. This time i cut into the correct (black & white) wire that powers the lights on the speed and tach.
Looking forward to toasty fingers in the morning ride.
