Title: Parting out '96 GS - CHEAP PARTS
Post by: modlife on January 13, 2008, 06:13:06 PM
I just picked up a disassembled '96 with basically everything there. He took it apart, had everything painted and attempted to rebuild the motor - decided it was too much work and needed the money more. I'm keeping the gas tank, plastics(to match the tank), handlebars, and one fork tube. Everything else is up for offers. I'm picking the bike up tomorrow and I'll take some pictures. From looking at the bike it looks like everything is there and in pretty good shape -the  plastics from my bike are for sale too - they're nice, but one hole has a little rip in it(where it mounts - still holds solid).

I'll also sell my gas tank - it has 2 small pressure dents(easy fix) and one light crease from falling against a pole - no rust or anything.

Also, he threw in an engine gasket set(unopened) - I'll sell that for $75

Make me some offers - nothing is too low!!

Everything ships from Alabama.

I'd also be willing to trade anything you need for a good tail/seat from a different bike...

Got the bike today - this thing is actually really nice, but in pieces. I'm suspecting now that the guy couldn't figure out how to get everything back together.

I'll take some pics after I lay it all out, but if anyone is interested in anything let me know - I'm sure it'll sell fast on ebay.

The motor looks fantastic - the head/carbs are off - carbs need rebuild but the cylinders and rings look like new even though it has 13k miles on it. Anyone that wants the motor I'll throw in the complete gasket set for free. What's fair for the motor and gaskets? $200?

Are you parting out the engine as well or selling whole?  I am looking for magneto and starter gear/starter clutch assembly.  Could you give me a price if your selling,  if not thanks for your time,  Dave

How about $30 for the starter and $60 for the carbs + shipping; if you buy them both.

That's a great deal

Do you have any of the gauge pieces? I need the metal piece that the gauges sit it (the one with all the indicator lights) and the black plastic piece on the back of the gauges.

Is the crankshaft in good shape?

I need one badly.

I would be more than happy to take it off your hands.

Is the headlight assembly available? How about the fork tube mounts and mounting brackets in addition to said assembly?

The headlight assembly is the one thing I just noticed damage on...looks like it had something fall onto it - I'll have to dig for the brackets. The guy's wife threw everything into boxes with no care at all - the block was on top of a lot of stuff, and in the same box as the headlight...so  I'm guessing that's what happened. I actually got a great deal on the bike because of his wife wanting it out of their garage, so I still can't complain...

the latch never worked on it, and the arm that connects it to the housing was broke too.  I took it for a ride, and got home and it was gone.  I went over 50 miles, I retraced my route but couldn't find it anywhere.
