Title: Gas Tank Question - PLEASE ADVISE
Post by: modlife on January 14, 2008, 07:34:10 PM
OK - it's dark out and I'm swapping tanks - a '96 for a '93. The new tank has an extra hose attachment - this one "L" shaped. Should I assume it's a second breather and just drop a hose from it or what?

Thanks
Josh

Unless its coming from the petcock IDK what it would be. mines a 95 and has one overflow and the petckcock thats it.

96 and 93 tank are the same.. the only thing that could be different is the petcock  :thumb:

good question :dunno_white:

What i would do is if you are in a rush is fill the tank and see if anything leaks out, if not then it probably is another vent, really what else could it be?

Def. not from the petcock - only 2 hoses there like on all of them. There is the large vent hose attachment and also another smaller "L" shaped attachment. I've just  finished washing it with water and then methyl alcohol to dry it - now I'll fill it with a 1/2 gallon of diesel/shake/drain - put it on the bike. I didn't notice anything coming from it when I was washing it, so I guess I'll just drop another rubber hose down beside the main vent and see what happens...

i had this same setup on my 90. it means it is a California emissions tank. the exta L shaped vent routs to a charcoal canister for vapor recovery.

It's not a vent. It's the drain for the recessed gas cap area. The vent is in the gas cap.

i checked my suzuki factory service manual, it is definitely vapor recovery to the charcoal canister (only cali bikes have the canister, older ones anyway). either way safety would dictate a hose to rout it down. non california bikes have vented caps (to air), California bikes caps are vented to the charcoal canister.

Makes sense...I did just add another hose to be safe. Bad thing is, after filling it I found that the seam leaks. I'll fix it - it's a nearly perfect tank otherwise
