Title: Project Gandit54R
Post by: Cozzy on January 16, 2008, 09:11:49 AM
Last week, the new owner of my old GS told me that the littler GS is hit put by a car for the side, and he no longer want it, so i have a project bike for free.

Here are the damage.

1 the forks are bent,
front wheel is broken.
gas tank are dent.

I have yet to have a change to have a look at it yet.

Here is my plan

1. a custom head light and an electronic gauages.
2. a set of folks with tiwn discs.
3. a new supframe with a race seat, to save some work on making the underseat storage.
4. a differerent swing arm with a 150 rear tires.
5. an engine rebuilt for the already tired engine with leakage here and there.
6. a gas tank

I would like to use parts from other bikes rather than fully custom parts.

This will be my first project, please help me with what to do.

Katana 600/750 front end.The easiest to install without machining, and cheapest also.
87-89 GSXR 750 swing arm. It's lighter.2 bushings need to be made for it to work,or drill the hole out for the GSXR bolt. You can run anything to a 6.25 TLR wheel with a 200-50-17 tire.
Buell X1 tail section requires welding.Your local muffler shop can do it for about $30.
I don't know the year bike you have but the 5 gallon tank can be used if you have a smaller 3 gal tank.
You can do dual head light conversion easily.Just search for head light, dual head light, head light conversion.

This should give you some ideas.Good luck.

I need to drag my project bike back out.

with the power output of the GS  I reckon a 150 or 160 rear tire is good enough, does any one tried the RGV swing arm?

Yep...

I had a braced VJ22 RGV s/a on my 555 bike, sold it Srinath and werase643 has it now. Setup with a stock 3.5" GS wheel.
There is a banana VJ22 RGV s/a on my 92 street bike. Setup with a 4.5" Kat wheel.
I have another... banana VJ23 RGV s/a slated for my track bike. I may switch it to my 92 street, it has better chain adjusters similar to a GSXR. This reminds me... I need to have the spacers & bushings made before my machinist at work retires.

i have seen some honda nsr tzr in the weckers, most are complete bike with a blown engine,

will the front and rear from either of the about 2 bike fit the GS.

It is possible to get a 01 fuel tank  on the a 99 frame?

What single seat should i mount to the bike the 03+  fuel tank.

Most any f/e can be made to fit. Either by swapping stems, modifing the donor stem, spacers for the donor stem or having a new stem made.

As for swingarms... the biggest problem is the width. The GS has a fairly narrow frame, one reason the RGV s/a is a common mod since it is 10mm narrower than the GS s/a. As for the other bikes, you are just going to have to measure their width and compair it to the GS.

There is another problem that needs to be addressed with a s/a swap, the rear shock. Different length dogbones should be able allow for the adjustment required. I make a new upper shock mount to accomodate longer shocks, mainly GSXR.

01+ tanks will fit on 89-00 frames. The seat and plastics will need to be changed or modified to fit the different profile of the tank or adapter brackets need to be made for the plastics.

As soon as I get this on I will sell U my 98 tail piece and seat for cheap. This is a 95 600 ninja race clip. I cut and raised the tail from behind the batt. Moved Batt down 1 inch and have to get a ninja seat. Will post pics when it looks good.

Finally, i have got a set of bandit400 front end with rim brakes, also the rear swing arm with wheels on the same bike, he put both of the gsxr400 front and rear end on his bandit. The project is putting togeather very slowly, as I have been playing around with my sv1000 too much.

I have alot of work to do before putting it togeather as the bike has been sitting for a few months, I need to derust it before putting it back togeather.

By the way does any one have any information of the 555 modification, what parts should i get to build a 555 engine?

The pistons for the 555 are no longer made. You could have a custom set made. Here is a link to check out. http://gstwins.com/gsboard/index.php?topic=14401.0

project update, still with all the parts laying around my friends machining shop, source a racing shock from a racing GSX-R400. Also looking at some aftermarket gauges cuz the orginal is damaged, however the most important thing would be the fuel tank, cuz I still can't find a fuel tank for it, as GS500 is not a common bike for my city, wondering what honda fuel tanks would fit, cuz they are more readily available.

GS tank 89-08 is the only tank that directly bolts on.

After discussing with my friend in taiwan, he recommmoned me to get the following parts

http://www.rpm.com.tw/tw/03product01_01.php?ID=323

The brake master cylindering cost around 130 shipped to my country

http://www.koso.com.tw/style/content/CN-063b/product_detail.asp?lang=2&customer_id=499&name_id=10027&rid=&id=66949

The mulit meter cost around 200

by the way both of the parts are really common in taiwan

Any comment welcome

Took the front end off today, and tried to  fit the gsf400 bandit front end(with wheel and brakes), it fit without much problem..........the shaft fit right in, still need some adjectmet.

Next I will take the swingarm off and try to fit the swing arm with the wheel and brake from the bandit as well.

Try to aline the bandit swingarm, the swingarm mount is about 3mm wider, so I will get someone to grind it and install, the shock and the rest look kinda samilar.

I will post some photos later

Now I have got everything off the bike, also trial fitted the font and rear end from the bandit400.

Now I need to clean the rust, is there any good way for cleaning it?
