Hi all,
I just got a new chain and front sprocket to replace my old rusted and stretched one. I've already cut the old one off, but I have a couple Qs about the new one.
First off, I wanted to know if there needs to be a set number of chain links between the front and rear sprockets. It occured to me after I took the chain off that this number won't change once you put the new chain on, and I'd rather be safe than sorry since I'm using rivet style master link.
Second Q, how tight should I press the rivet style master link on? That is, what width should the master link have? It's a DID Xring VM chain. My friend suggested that I just measure the width of the other links and use that. Sounds good to be but I thought I'd ask.
Third Q, where should I put the rear wheel when first adjusting the chain? I'm thinking I push it all the way forward, then just use the chain adjustors to slide it back, but I'm not sure.
Thanks,

You only need to adjust for correct amount of slack after installation( the chain seats itself as you pull the wheel back and tighten the chain )
Look at the other links as you rivet the master to the same width ,squish the head until its flat as the others no need to use brute force so it won't kink
