Alright, here we go, hopefully someone can help.
I have a 92 GS500E that ran great up until september last year.
I rode to a friends house and had a couple of drinks so he took me home. My bike stayed outside for a couple of days, but not in the rain. When I picked it up, it didnt warm up completely, and shut off on me several times on my 3 mile ride home. Since then, it will start, and idle strange, then shut off. And i cant ride it with out constantly be messing with the tnrottle, and when I stop, it shuts off.
Here is what I have found:
- When sitting on the bike, the left cylinder isnt firing right. The cylinder doesnt even get warm after 15 minutes of running.
- it has spark, i have checked it
- When trying to run it, you can see gas coming out of the overflow in the carb
- One day i took out the plug to check for spark, when i put it back in, it ran perfect, for about 1 mile, then left me stranded and went back to the same problems.
Does anyone have any ideas?
I was going to rebuild the carbs, change out the plugs and wires, and hope that works. What do you think?
Thanks.
Sounds like a fuel problem; fuel gets to the carb but not out and into the cylinder (leading to overflow). Clogged jet? The carbs probably need a cleaning.
I think you are on the right track.. start by cleaning the carbs, if there is no change I would move to plug wires and plugs :thumb:
I had a prob like that and thought it was a coil. The right side not firing. Bought new coil and was not the prob. Wiggled wires near batt and it started working. Maybe this might help. Good luck.
