I got a chance to hear Pkaaso's bike with this slip on and it sounds great! I love it. Seeing as how I probably dont need a full system (its more for top end anyway, right?) I may just have to go this route...
Highly recommend it. Supposedly you do not need to rejet but pkaaso's bike has been rejetted.
I think you're too concerned about rejetting. It's really not that difficult, not more than many of the mods you've done so far.
I don't know about that...
taking the tank, airbox, carbs off and taking the carbs apart sounds like much more tech stuff (esp the carb tear down) than I'm comfortable with. I'm sure its pretty easy as many have said but I'd need a helping hand in case something isn't as its supposed to be.
Actually, Pkaaso might help me do it sometime. He's offered. If I did that I might even go with the K&N pod filters for that nice induction sound. Dunno.
The Cobra and the K&N pod filter do make a great (inexpensive) combination. I followed Srinath's and a few other's suggestions on the jet sizes and it worked out great. The pipe sounds much better than stock and with the throaty sound of the pod filters, I'm very happy with the sound. I get quite a few compliments from other types of bike riders on the sound too.
Jetting is easy. Tanking the tank off is the real pain. The fuel hoses just kill me.
I would be glad to show you how to jet your's Pablo, as soon as I get the engine and the swing arm back in the fram. Mwaaa ha ha ha ha. :thumb:

When I had my tank off to paint it I started tinkering with the airbox and carbs. I took the airbox out to get some of the excess oil out of it from the crank vent. When I put it back in I knocked off a vacuum hose, I then wasted a week trying to find what the damn problem was. The rewards are great if you rejet and have it work, but if you get the slightest thing wrong it can give you a lot of grief.

Dude, I used Bleeder type idle jets the first time. I spend hours and hours, and had that tank off so many times it drove me crazy. I accually barrowed a friends set of carbs (bike that wasn't running at the time) to just get a ride on my bike.
I would put the tank back on, forget to turn the gas on and ride about 3 blocks away, and push it back. I did this not once but twice till I put the keys with my long screwdriver on the table so I'd think about it before riding it again.
There is only two hoses on the carbs that are crutial. The gas and the vacumm, Murphy's Law you pick the one that lets it run but just not very well. :x
The Cobra F1-S (or the R, like I have) is a really simple mod that pays off big. MUCH better sound, and better performance. No, you do not need to rejet, but you'll be happier if you do. You'll get a quicker warm up, without any stumbling, and the bike is very smooth in the lower power-band. I can actually hear my own bike in traffic now (well, most of the time!! ) Go for it.
If I have the Cobra F1R what size jets are recommended?
Also, if I add the K&N Dual Flange Filters, then what size of jets?? I should mention that I've heard adding those filters + exhaust usually gives a huge flat spot in mid range.... which would cause a large spike near top end which would feel like a big gain but in reality, the dyno would show less performance than before. I heard this from an ex-racer....Is this true??
Thanks! :thumb:

My 67.5 Mid range mains came in today and should fix the flat spot....I'll have them in by Fri. This will only help on the 01+ bikes though......I'll post how it turns out. As far as showing less performance, it's only if you don't know how to ride in the powerband. If you keep it in the power and out of the flat spot there is no comparison.

K&N dual flange without airbox and slip on...my setup for 5 years.
150/40/1mm/3 turns.
Works great and that moving power to top end is a load of crap. You jet the bike 1 spot (more like one range of throttle settings at a time). So if power is bad down low you just sort that out. Having said that The Gs is sorta gutless below 6K and is near un rideable below 3 stock or jetted and piped...That probably isn't going to change. It will be better than stock, warm up quicker and behave better overall in all weather conditions. Most people jet the bikes just for those benifits.
Cool.
Srinath.
Does anyone on this topic know where I can purchase a Cobra F1S slip-on for a 2005 gs500f! Thanks. This is my first time posting!!
I think they are discontinued..... Ebay maybe...
holy crap, this is an old thread...
start by looking at the cobra website. then if it truely is discontinued I'd start on ebay and craigslist.
Thanks. What is craigslist? Sorry Like some other people on this site, I am a newbie! Thanks!
www.craigslist.org is a free classifieds that is very popular. go there, and there's one for most every metropolitan city.
WOW!!! This is an old thread. Is the Cobra still available?
