Title: starvation
Post by: dadsafrantic on January 20, 2008, 06:38:12 AM
my bike feels like it is starving in the mornings on the ride to work.  even after warming up and 10 miles into the ride i get a laggy feeling at 70 mph like i need to switch the petcock.  i have replaced the plugs but no real change.  what should i do next?

thanks

You replaced the wrong thing. The plugs were likely fine. It's the petcock that needs replacing.

There are write ups with pictures of how to change your crappy stocker into a much freer flowing design.

search for 'petcock mod' or whatever on the forum. you'll see what I mean.

You're not running all hte way to work with the choke on, are you ? ;)

so heres the deal.  the problem does not go away with pri trick.  it also seems to come and go.  sometimes the pri seems to lessin the situation but others not at all.

Could be a clog in the fuel lines or the tank-mounted petcock/filter.

Here's 1 way to covert the petcock to eliminate the vacuum diaphram. http://gstwins.com/gsboard/index.php?topic=19363.0

or you can buy a cheap replacement. http://gstwins.com/gsboard/index.php?topic=36958.0

He said that setting it to PRI doesn't solve the problem; I don't think he needs to modify the petcock right now.

when it is running rough open then close the fuel filler cap and see if that changes anything.  if it works better then it is a vacuum problem
